National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Islamophobia

January 29 marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Islamophobia. Islamophobia is defined as the irrational fear and hatred of the religion of Islam or Muslims. On this day, we remember the 6 worshippers who lost their lives at a Quebec City Mosque in 2017 and the three generations of the Afzaal family in the City of London who were killed due to hatred of the Islam Religion.

As an inclusive school community, we stand up and say no to Islamophobia. Any form of hatred or violence has no room in our schools and classrooms. This National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Islamophobia will allow us never to forget all victims of discrimination, and give us time to reflect and to continue our efforts to eliminating all forms of violence.

Resources and Workshop on Addressing Islamophobia are available on our Addressing Islamophobia page.
