African Canadian Heritage Month Session with The Honourable Jean Augustine
It
was a distinguished honour for Trustee Teresa Lubinski to host Hon. Jean
Augustine in 18 Catholic schools of Etobicoke-Lakeshore and Parkdale-High Park.
Dr. Augustine was the first Black woman elected to the House of Commons as a
member of Etobicoke-Lakeshore. As a Parliamentarian, Dr. Augustine proposed
that February be officially recognized as Black History Month in Canada. Her
motion passed unanimously.
Students participated in a live question and answer session to learn more about the historic motion that recognizes the contributions and enduring presence of African Canadians. You can watch the recorded session below.
Trustee
Lubinski initiated an Educational Program for students and staff to provide an
opportunity to engage directly with Hon. Jean Augustine.
