Latin-Hispanic Heritage Celebration

Hispanic Canadian Heritage Month Mass and Cultural Expose Program

The TCDSB Community Relations Department collaborated with Basil-the-Great College School to present the 2016 Hispanic Canadian Heritage Month Mass and Expose on October 24th 2016. The mass was celebrated by Father Michael Lehman and was followed by performances by local schools, including  St. Jude Catholic School, St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, Madonna Catholic Secondary School, St. Jane Frances Catholic School and St. Basil-the-Great Catholic Secondary School. Director of Education, Angela Gauthier, provided greetings and participated in the morning celebrations.

Through collaborative participation, students, staff and community engaged and learned about the Latin/Hispanic diaspora and the origins of Bill 28.   A variety of presentations and performances showcased geography, language, history, traditional Song/ Dance, cultural outfits, a specialized interactive community drumming session and a live instrumental band, all in celebration of Hispanic Canadian Heritage Month.  Students received the opportunity to remember, celebrate and educate themselves on outstanding achievements and rich contributions of Hispanic people in Canada and around the world.
The organizing committee is grateful to all of the performers and volunteers that made this year’s event a great success.
