​​​​Rev. L.D. Burns C.S.B. and the Burns Family Scholarship

This award was created by Rev. L.D. Burns C.S.B. and the Burns family in 2018. Rev. Burns C.S.B. was head of the History Department at Michael Power Catholic Secondary School from 1965-1974.

 

Interest earned on a principal amount of $67,000, as well as any further contributions, are to be used to provide an annual $1,000 award to an eligible secondary school student graduating from Michael Power/St. Joseph Catholic High School to encourage and support her or him in their post-secondary studies.   

Regulations:

  1. An annual award of no less than $1,000 will be given to a graduating student from Michael Power/St. Joseph Catholic High School.
  2. The scholarship shall be awarded to a graduating student pursuing studies in History. Academic standing shall be the main criteria used in the selection of the recipient.
  3. The final selection of the recipient will be made by a selection panel comprising of the school Principal, or Designate, and a member of the History Department.
  4. An award certificate will be presented to the recipient at Michael Power/St. Joseph’s annual graduation/closing ceremony.
  5. The name of the scholarship is to be included in the graduation program.
  6. Rev. Burns shall be notified of ​​​​​​​​​​​the recipient’s name, as well as the time, date and place of the graduation ceremony.
  7. Award to be presented by Rev. Burns or a family member if possible.​ 
  8. The recipient is asked to send a note to Rev. Burns upon receipt of the award, via their school administration.
