Bike Helmet Safety

The safety and well-being of our students is always our first priority at the TCDSB.  An important campaign takes off this coming Fall 2017 to encourage and remind students, parents and all staff to be active and play safe.  According to current laws in Toronto, all cyclists under the age of 18 years must wear an approved helmet.
Parents and students reminded that, with preparations for the new school year, a helmet check is a good idea: does it still fit and, most important, is it being worn properly?  A poster is being delivered to all schools to educate our students about the correct way to wear a helmet, using the reminder:

It's Your Head Use itAlways wear a properly fitted helmet
  • 2 fingers above the eyebrow to the bottom of the helmet
  • V shape formed with 4 fingers to where the straps meet below the ears
  • 1 finger under the strap beneath the chin
The Toronto Helmet Initiative Partnership is a group of not-for-profit organizations dedicated to reducing head injuries and promoting physical activity. The Toronto Helmet Initiative promotes safe helmet use. The partners include TCDSB, the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto Public Health, Toronto Police Services and TDSB.

Remember: If it has wheels, wear a helmet!
