Ready to create change? To mark Canada's 150th anniversary, the Royal Canadian Mint is inviting Canadians to design our five circulation coins for 2017.
Not only is this your chance to create your own piece of history, but you could also win a trip to its unveiling in 2017 and $2,000 in cash.
The contest is open to all Canadians with a flair for drawing, from students to professional artists to hobbyists with a love for Canada. A jury of prominent Canadians will select the winners for the new 5 cent, 10 cent, 25 cent, 1 dollar and 2 dollar coins. This contest is a unique opportunity to be part of Canada’s historic celebrations. The winning designer will see their love of Canada — and their artistic talents — on display from coast to coast to coast. The “My Canada, My Inspiration” contest is a way to reflect on what makes Canada special. Along with the ongoing Canada 150 celebrations, it offers every Canadian a chance to consider what makes them so proud to be a part of this great country.
5 Ways to Celebrate
The “My Canada, My Inspiration” contest will be looking for coin designs on five unique themes. Together, they represent the breadth and wonder of this great nation:
1. Our Wonders: From coast to coast, Canada has vibrant landscapes, flora, fauna, and defining monuments. This coin is inspired by the majesty of Canada’s natural beauty.
2. Our Character: Canada is woven together by its shared values and cultural diversity. This coin illustrates the Canadian spirit.
3. Our Achievements: Canada has contributed much to the world. This coin is drawn from a rich history that includes medical innovations and space exploration, from valour in combat to social advances.
4. Our Passions: Canada boasts some of the world’s best sports, music, literature, arts, and food. This coin reveals the source of Canadian pride.
5. Our Future: Open exclusively to Canadians age 12 or younger, this theme encourages young artists to imagine Canada’s future. What will Canada be and of what will its future leaders be most proud?
Design submissions are due April 30th.
