Toronto Catholic District School Board

TCDSB Celebrates Autism Awareness Day

Thousands of students and staff from across the Toronto Catholic District School Board participated in the annual dance for Autism awareness on March 11th. This provided some insight into Autism, and served as a great lead up to the celebration of Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd.

All Saints School planned a school wide event and invited guest speakers.  A spokesperson from Autism Canada spoke about Autism Awareness and research and TCDSB student Angelo Ventura spoke about his experiences as a student with Autism.  His speech can be found at the following link.

The Board was pleased to present its 5th annual Autism Awareness Evening on April 1st starting at 5:30 p.m. “Nurturing Gifts; Making Contributions to our Communities” is an evening dedicated to promoting the gifts, and talents of our students with Autism. Students from across the board shared their talents in a variety of areas including poetry, dance, instrumental music, construction, origami and magic. The keynote speaker was Jeannine Dupuy, from Famous People Players, who speak about fostering and developing talents.

This was followed on April 2nd, with schools and offices raising a flag for Autism Awareness. At the Catholic Education Centre, senior officials from the Board, along with members of the Special Education Advisory Committee, and a student with Autism, rasied the flag at 10 a.m.
