Christmas Message from the Director of Education and Chair of the Board

The wait is almost over.  As Advent draws to a close, we look forward with anticipation to celebrating the birth of our Savior, we wish all of you a blessed, joyful and peaceful Christmas season.

We thank everyone in our TCDSB family for the role that each of you plays in supporting, inspiring, and guiding our students.
We acknowledge everyone for embracing the virtue of charity throughout the school year, but most particularly the outpouring of love, compassion and generosity that we see throughout Advent.
Let us pledge to extend the Christmas spirit of giving into the New Year by following the example of The Holy Family by extending our hearts and hands to all those who are seeking shelter and support much as Mary and Joseph did on that Christmas night so many years ago.
In the words of Pope Francis “Together with them (the shepherds), let us pause before the Child, let us pause in silence. Together with them, let us thank the Lord for having given Jesus to us, and with them let us raise from the depths of our hearts the praises of his fidelity: We bless you, Lord God most high, who lowered yourself for our sake. You are immense, and you made yourself small; you are rich and you made yourself poor; you are all-powerful and you made yourself vulnerable. On this night let us share the joy of the Gospel: God loves us, he so loves us that he gave us his Son to be our brother, to be light in our darkness.
Merry Christmas!

On Friday December 12th, the RAP vocal students at Father John Redmond performed their 3rd annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at Transfiguration of Our Lord Catholic Church. The concert also featured the RAP strings and staff of Father John Redmond.

Each year, the RAP vocalists bring the Festival of Lessons and Carols to a different church (Our Lady of Sorrows 2013, All Saints 2014) to bring the music of the liturgical season to a variety of communities. This year's concert included music by Benjamin Brittan, Anton Bruckner, John Rutter, Healy Willan, Edward Bairstow, Carl Reger and of course, the late Sir David Willcocks.

St. Gerald Sells Candy Canes for Tanzania

St. Gerald has been involved in an annual Candy Sale for the last 10 years to raise money for the less fortunate. The  St. Gerald community donates the candy canes so we can have a 100 percent profit. The intermediate students take on this initiative raising awareness for this cause (announcements, posters, jingles, in-class announcements and sales).  We have raised close to $1000.00 yearly for schools in Tanzania, fresh water wells, beds, school supplies and for the last few years we have been affiliated with Free the Children.

The Romero Christmas Carousel 2015

Mr. De Santis’ SHSM students manufactured and built a working carousel for the 2015 Christmas season. These students worked before, during and after school to complete this project in order to meet the December 1st timeline. These extraordinary students didn’t only meet and surpass the deadline but worked collaboratively, overcame obstacles and made modifications along the way to make it all work properly. This build encompassed all the aspects of the 21st Century Learning Model and the students learned the skills that they will need to thrive and succeed in today’s work world as this project is a huge accomplishment on many levels. It showcases a level of workmanship and skill level that is well beyond their years.
