At Girls’ Only Invitational Hockey Tournament

Congratulations to Our Lady of Sorrows (Marie Philip Poulin Team) who won the final game 2 to 1. Finishing second was a blended team (Hayley Wiskenheiser Team) made up of players from Fr Serra, St John XllI,  All Saints, St Benedict, St Elizabeth and Our Lady of Victory.

Approximately 140 young women from elementary schools in the Toronto Catholic District School Board participated in this year’s girls’ invitational hockey tournament on April 28th
The puck dropped at 9:00 a.m., with Wendy Baker, a bronze medallist at the 1987 PanAm Games, and a torch bearer for the upcoming PanAm Para PanAm Games this summer (Wendy currently teaches at St. Gabriel Catholic School).
Students in grades 5 to 8 competed throughout the day at Don Montgomery Arena, 2467 Eglinton Ave E. Toronto
Our Lady of Fatima, St. Edward, St. Bonaventure, Our Lady of Sorrows, Our Lady of Peace, Father Serra, St. Gregory, St. Benedict, St. Gregory, St. Denis, St. Gabriel, St. Robert, St. Anselm, St. Brigid, Our Lady of Wisdom, St. Monica, St. Luigi, St. Elizabeth, St. Blessed John XXII, St. John, St. Brigid, All Saints, St. Lawrence, Annunciation, St. Rita, Immaculate Conception, St. Cyril, St. Gabriel, St. Barbara, St. Vincent de Paul, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Holy Cross,  Our Lady of Victory and St. Gabriel Lalemant have confirmed their participation.
Each team played at least three games minimum, with each game consisting of two 20-minute periods. Most teams were blended teams, with students from more than one school on each team. The championship game is tentatively scheduled to ake place between 1 – 2 pm, with Medals were awarded to the 1st and 2nd place teams.
Facilitated by a small team of parents and staff from Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, the annual event was originally spearheaded six years ago by a parent from St. Denis Catholic School. Blessed Sacrament acknowledges Ellen Lowden ( and Bill & Margaret Hayes ( Royal Lepage Signature Realty) for creating this great opportunity for the girls of TCDSB and sponsoring this event.
