Toronto Catholic District School Board

“Think Before You Post”

Social Media Awareness Focus of

Bullying Awareness and Prevention Month

TORONTO – The Toronto Catholic District School Board launched Bullying Awareness and Prevention Month on November 6th at an event hosted at St. Basil-the-Great College School. Keynote speaker was Molly Burke who brought her resonating message that any challenge can be overcome.
The program is designed for the Safe Schools Student Ambassadors and will challenge the students as to how social media can be used to promote a positive school climate and healthy teen relationships.
A highlight was the showcasing of student videos created last June that depict and promote appropriate, responsible healthy teen relationships using social media.  Students were presented with congratulatory plaques in recognition of their work. The videos and the launch are the result of a supportive partnership with PrevNet whose mission is to stop bullying in Canada and to promote safe and healthy relationships for all Canadian children and youth.
Our Student Ambassadors are not only leaders in their local school communities but also across the TCDSB,” says TCDSB Director of Education Angela Gauthier. “Our Safe Schools Team is helping these motivated youth to develop knowledge, skills and strategies to assist them in supporting their peers, while helping to bridge communications between our staff, parents and students.”
“It is of paramount importance to all parents that our schools be safe and welcoming places of learning,” says TCDSB Chair Michael Del Grande. “The Board of Trustees respects and appreciates the profound impact that these Student Ambassadors have on our school communities and are behind them 100%.  We encourage everyone in the community to acknowledge and support their efforts.”
