TCDSB Hosts Two Workshops:

Student Trustee Workshop: Being a Catholic Student Leader

This workshop will bring the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations to life as the student leaders are challenged to model the “Catholic” in Catholic Student Leadership. It will be inspired by the works of Jean Vanier around inclusion and belonging and will empower student

leaders to connect and play a major role in Province wide Catholic Student leadership events including: The Catholic Leadership Camp at Camp Olympia and When Faith Meets Pedagogy Youth Forum. Student Trustee Chris MacDonald and Hannah McGroarty will be hosting the workshop in collaboration with the Student Leadership Department Lead Teacher Greg

TCDSB Trustee Workshop: Supporting Students and Families Living in Poverty

Since one in six students in Ontario is living in poverty, no school or classroom is unaffected by the wide-reaching impact of poverty, whether social, cognitive, physical or emotional. As Pope

Francis has so eloquently and consistently stated, “Among our tasks as witnesses to the love of Christ is that of giving a voice to the cry of the poor”. All stakeholders in the Catholic education system have a duty to work to support families and students living in poverty. Participants will learn about ways in which TCDSB has approached the issue of Poverty and worked to raise the awareness of this critical issue through the coordination of a variety of stakeholders. The Angel Foundation for Learning is a third party agency that is part of the TCDSB Poverty focus helping families and students in need. Discussions will focus on sharing effective approaches and practical strategies which Catholic Boards have been implemented in

Ontario. Workshop leads are: Aggie Nemes, NTIP Coordinator; Carol Soper and Joan Tschernow, Principals; and Jan Murphy, SEF Lead / ELL Coordinator; as well as staff from the Angel Foundation For Learning.
