Toronto Catholic District School Board

Final 12 x 3 Remembrance Day Twitter2017.jpg
TCDSB Remembers

A tribute to Vimy Ridge, postcards for peace, and a presentation from Commanding officer of The Toronto Scottish Regiment were some of the many events commemorating a week of remembrance in the Toronto Catholic District School Board.

Throughout the week, schools commemorated Remembrance Day in their own way, but were united in providing support to one another, our veterans and our country. Here are some highlights from events and activities held across the TCDSB commemorating Remembrance Day.

On Friday, November 10th, students from Notre Dame High School and Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts participated in the annual CEC Remembrance Day service. Chair of the Board Angela Kennedy, Trustee Nancy Crawford, Director Rory McGuckin, Associate Director Dan Koenig, Catherine Yarema (Notre Dame teacher), Fiona Fleury (student at Notre Dame), Vanessa Pinto from our Indigenous Education Department and Father Michael Lehman who represented our parish community were on hand to be part of the procession, led by our flag bearers Bruno Pileggi and Kevin Lobo. Alex Mazzucco led the audience in a reading of In Flanders Fields.  The CEC is grateful to the participants involved in this year’s service. See highlights from the CEC service below.

  • St. Anselm students visit Veterans at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre

Grade 5 students from St. Anselm Catholic School visited Sunnybrook Veterans Centre on November 7th ahead of Remembrance Day. The students mingled with veterans in the Centre’s Warrior’s Hall and the class choir sang 6 songs, including the National Anthem, to commemorate Remembrance Day. Local media attended to capture the heartwarming moments when the students handed veterans hand-made Postcards for Peace as a token of gratitude for their service. It was a great day for all. The community is grateful to St. Anselm staff, Ms. Whyte and Ms. Blanchet, and Ms. Edwards, and to principal Donato Di Paolo for organizing the visit.
