Update for Parents and Students

Regarding Possible School Bus Strike

This is an update on the potential school bus driver strike.
First Student Canada has now advised the Toronto Catholic District School Board that school bus drivers with its Ajax division have set a strike deadline for 12:01am on Thursday, November 30th. While negotiations are continuing, should an agreement not be reached, the union may call for a strike as early as Thursday morning. Nineteen TCDSB schools would be impacted by a potential strike.

As mentioned in previous communications earlier in November, there will be NO school bus services on routes being serviced by this division in the event of a strike. If there is a strike, the operator will not be able to replace the bus drivers and the TCDSB will not be able to contract another bus company to service the routes. As a result, parents whose children attend one of the 19 schools identified below, should make alternate arrangements in the event of a strike that may impact pickup, drop-off or both.

The Board continues to remain hopeful that the contract negotiations between the bus operator and the union representing the bus drivers will conclude with a settlement, not a strike.

In the meantime, TCDSB will be monitoring the contract negotiations very closely. Should a strike be called or a settlement reached, parents will be notified immediately.
