Toronto Catholic District School Board

TCDSB Chair and Director
Respond to Tragedy on Yonge Street

Good morning,

We join with everyone in the City of Toronto, across Canada and around the world in expressing our profound shock and grief regarding the loss of life during yesterday’s random act of violence on Yonge Street. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this heartbreaking event.

TCDSB schools and offices are asked to lower their flags to half-mast in honour of the victims, their families and all those who have been touched by this tragedy. Flags will remain at half-mast until further notice.

As a Catholic community, let us take a moment of silence this morning to join ourselves in prayer with all those impacted by the effects of the vehicle attack on innocent pedestrians on Yonge Street:

Loving God, Creator and Sustainer of all Life, we ask you in this moment of great fear and sorrow to be with us and all who suffer or experience pain and death through hatred and war. Through the inspiration of your Son Jesus, the Prince of Peace, lead us to a day in which terror and hatred are no more. Let this be a reminder forever for us all that as followers of Jesus, the creation and the Reign of God is up to us. It is up to us to create a world of love and peace. We make our prayer through Jesus the healer, and his Mother Mary, the consoler. Amen.

Further resources to support our students during this traumatic period are available on our website: https://www.tcdsb.org/pages/supporting-students-in-times-of-tragedy.aspx
