Student Christmas Service Trip to Philippines

Twenty-three TCDSB Student Leaders, along with 3 teachers, spent their Christmas Break in the Philippines – turning their faith and innovation into action for those in need.
The trip was full of activities and excitement, beginning with students spreading Christmas spirit in 6 different communities in the Philippines. They visited local orphanages and handed out gifts to children, as well as donated supplies they had packed especially for the trip.
Students enjoyed spending time in the communities, playing with children and helping to fetch water. They visited build sites and helped prep land for the construction of a new playground, before they began the hard work of building houses in Baliwag, Philippines.
The group was warmly welcomed by the Mayor and citizens of Baliwag, with a special visit to the Mayor’s municipal office, before heading to the build site. The Mayor also generously arranged for an entourage to provide transportation for students to the build site - as their bus was too big for the road!
Students and teachers made a number of heartwarming connections during their trip, and didn't want to leave the amazing community. “We truly learned the meaning of happiness and how being happy does not come from ‘stuff’ but ‘relationships’,” shared Michael Consul, TCDSB teacher and Student Leadership Facilitator.
