Toronto Catholic District School Board

TCDSB Students Stop the Stigma

The Toronto Catholic District School Board launched its 10th Annual Stop the Stigma campaign with a student symposium on Thursday, December 7th . Teams of secondary students from across the Board came together at the University of Toronto’s Hart House to listen to a keynote address and kickoff performance by Canadian JUNO Award Winner, Singer/Songwriter and TCDSB alumnus, Matt Dusk.
The Stop the Stigma campaign raises awareness regarding mental health issues and provides a base of knowledge from which student teams will be equipped to raise awareness within their own school communities. Studies indicate that one in five adolescents struggle with mental health challenges throughout their lives.
Students attended workshops designed to encourage open discussion, learning and problem-solving. Workshops included discussions with guest speakers, a drumming circle, spoken word, graffiti art, and hip-hop dancing. Approximately 250 staff and students were in attendance, representing all 33 TCDSB secondary schools, who will be leading mental health awareness campaigns at their schools.
