TCDSB Artist in the Schools Program 2014-15
Engaging Learners through the Arts
2014-15 Deadline is September 30th - Submissions are closed.
Funding is covering the cost of the artist and is allocated to elementary schools based on the proposal submitted for the following school year.  The proposal should be a collaborative project in the school and express and demonstrate student voice and engagement.  This may involve the whole school, a division, or mixed grades.  It is not for purposes of Christmas concert, spring play or any end product presentations. It is a process of how it will benefit the students in their learning through the arts.
ARTS PROJECT:  Drama/Dance/Visual Arts
Schools may link their school improvement plan with the arts project.  The project needs to show how it can be integrated with other subjects.
The project should encourage student’s...
*       enthusiasm and interest
*       increased knowledge and development of skills
*       improved self-esteem, can be particularly striking in children who are less academic
*             positive engagement in creativity
*       art work produced at a higher level and materials used with greater confidence
*       excited ‘buzz’ of having an artist in the school
*       language development – vocabulary of art/dance/drama introduced and evidenced
              in other areas of the curriculum
*       willingness to try new approaches
*       enjoyment of working with a professional artist
The Project should assist in a teacher’s...
        professional development opportunities
*      increased confidence, skill and knowledge of art forms and related techniques
*       help with areas of creativity across the curriculum
Arts Council of Ontario Roster Schools may contact the artist early September and book them for a very good cost.  Schools have an option of adding them to the proposal or booking on their own.
