What We Do

In the Toronto Catholic District School Board, Educational Researchers:

  • Promote improved student achievement and well-being by collaborating with central Programs and Services Departments (i.e., Curriculum, Leadership and Innovation; Safe Schools; Special Services; Student Success) and supporting a data-informed, research-based approach

  • Collaborate in the design, coordination, and reporting of evidence to inform the TCDSB Board Learning and Improvement Plan and Multi-Year Strategic Plan

  • Design, implement, and report on all system-wide surveys, (e.g., Safe and Caring Catholic School Climate; Student Transition; My School My Voice; Safe Schools; Teacher Voice; Administrator Voice; Parent Voice)

  • Engage cross-departmental collaboration to meet the objectives of the Ontario Ministry of Education's Managing Information for Student Achievement (MISA) initiative, notably to increase local capacity to work with data for improved student outcomes

  • Facilitate evidence-informed decision making by supporting the development and usage of the TCDSB Data Integration Platform (DIP), the Board’s local analysis and reporting tool

  • Liaise with the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) on matters related to accessing, reporting, and using EQAO achievement data and implementation of provincial, national and international assessments

  • Coordinate the administration of the Canadian Achievement Test (CAT/4) in Grades 2, 5 and 7

  • Design and deliver professional learning for administrators, teachers, and other board staff on accessing and using data to inform practice

  • Inform implementation of the School Effectiveness Framework across all schools in the TCDSB and support school initiatives to promote accountability and address the needs of the school community

  • Conduct reviews of programs and interventions in the areas of curriculum and special services

  • Undertake educational research relevant to Board priorities and identify implications for the TCDSB

  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of programs and curriculum support documents

  • Present research at conferences and publish reports

  • Represent the TCDSB in community initiatives to improve children’s education and well-being
