Toronto Catholic District School Board

Indigenous Education Through a Catholic Lens

Art Show: "Bridges"

by the Staff and Students of Monsignor Fraser College-Isabella Campus

On Tuesday, June 5, 2018, in acknowledgement of National Indigenous People's Month, the Toronto Catholic District School Board's Equity, Diversity & Indigenous Education Department opened the Art Show "Bridges" with a special celebration at the Catholic Education Centre. The event included greetings from Elder Kim Wheatley, performances by Métis fiddler and guitarist, and traditional indigenous dancing.

The art exhibition features seven artworks, and is a testament to our community’s storytelling spirit, our commitment to raising awareness about First Nation Métis and Inuit topics and our desire to make meaning through a Catholic lens. It pays homage to Indigenous elders, artists and poets. This exhibit was curated by Rita Sarra-Macchiusi and Donna Sistilli, who shared:

"The narratives of our mixed media pieces unveil Indigenous history and worldviews. Our personal beliefs and Catholic values are reflected in these works."
