TCDSB Sings O Canada

Thank you to all the schools--the students and the teachers--who participate in our contest either by submitting artwork for the CD cover or for creating music videos.

It was a tough decision for our panel of judges, however the big unveiling of the winners happened on June 28,2017.

Congratulations to the winner of the CD cover design, Angela Lee from Cardinal Carter Academy for the arts.

There were so many great submissions that the Board decided to award a second place prize for the back cover of the CD. The winning artwork for the back cover was created by Ava Chau at Prince of Peace.

We also revealed the 10 schools who will be featured on the TCDSB Sings O Canada CD:

  • Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School
  • Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School
  • Holy Spirit Catholic School
  • St. Malachy Catholic School
  • Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School
  • Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts
  • St. Mary Catholic Academy
  • St. Robert Catholic School
  • St. Bernard catholic School
  • St. Mother Teresa Catholic Academy

And a bonus track from Martina Ortiz Luis, a Cardinal Carter student who was chosen to sing the anthem at all home games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2016-2017 season. Martina was also asked to be part of the panel to help select the ten winning entries.

The 10 winning schools were brought into a professional recording studio and their renditions of the anthem have been professionally mixed and mastered.

The TCDSB Sings O Canada cd will be sent to all schools in September 2017 so that schools can use them each morning as part of their morning exercises.

The Board is very proud of the talented students and staff whose musical and artistic creations celebrated our diversity.

As Trustee Nancy Crawford said during the celebration on June 28th: "We are a diverse group of individuals in age, culture, language, background, and ability, but we are all distinctly Canadian and we are all part of the TCDSB family.

"As we celebrate 150 years of history across Canada, as well as our own history that spans more than 175 years of Catholic education in the Toronto area, we are called to continue to write the history of our board and our nation. Let’s continue to make that story a rich and vibrant one that celebrates our successes."
