IYAM! - Interfaith Youth Alliance Movement

High School Students Host Inaugural Interfaith Event for Youth
More than 300+ secondary schools from across the Toronto Catholic District School Board, will gather with students from St Mary Catholic Secondary School (Durham), Cardinal Ambrozic Cardinal Secondary School (Dufferin-Peel), Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute (TDSB) and As-Sadiq Islamic School at the launch event for the Interfaith Youth Alliance Movement (IYAM). This inaugural event takes place on Tuesday, March 19th at the head office of the Toronto Catholic District School Board, 80 Sheppard Avenue East.
Hosted by students from Madonna Catholic Secondary School in North York, and inspired by the energy and purpose of the Parliament of World Religions, these young women understand the power of youth to use their voices to propel young people to come together.

IYAM is being modelled on the Interfaith Youth Core movement that has gained strength and momentum in the United States with the goal of creating opportunities for youth to connect and bond with people from diverse worldviews and faith traditions.
The hope is to encourage youth to foster a better appreciation of others, make deeper connections to their understanding of faith, celebrate commonalities and differences, and work together on issues to unify communities.
This year, the Toronto Catholic District School Board’s pastoral plan celebrates the theme of We Belong. Pope Francis has emphasized that, “Interreligious dialogue is a necessary condition for peace in the world.” The need to build inclusive communities becomes more apparent at a time when we face many global challenges.  IYAM calls youth to live The Golden Rule, and take collective action on issues such as climate change, Islamophobia, Anti-Semitism, hate crimes, Truth and Reconciliation, mental health and other critical issues.
