Indigenous Education Week

June 3 - 7, 2019


June is National Indigenous History Month, and we are pleased to celebrate it at the TCDSB, with a number of events taking place at the Catholic Education Centre (80 Sheppard Ave. E.).

As part of our celebration, we will officially recognize the first week of June (June 3-7) as Indigenous Education Week. Schools will receive a list of digital resources to support and further learning about Indigenous peoples in Canada. 
Please note the following events taking place at the CEC during Indigenous Education Week:   

JUNE 3rd

3:00 - 5:00 p.m.: "What We Have Learned So Far", with students from The Native Studies English Classes from St. Mother Teresa C.S.S. and Dante Alighieri Academy participating.

JUNE 4th

10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Mini Pow Wow (outside, weather permitting). Elementary Schools are invited.

JUNE 5th

  • ​10:30 to 11:30 p.m.: Tapestry Project
  • 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.: "ReconciliACTION”- The unveiling of a special project completed in collaboration between the Special Education Department and the Equity, Diversity, Indigenous Education, and Community Relations Department. ​Under the guidance of Metis Knowledge Keeper and Artist Diane Montreuil, students explored the concept of Reconciliation ​ through art.  June 5th will be a celebration of the unveiling of this special project.​

  • 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.: Indigenous Parent Engagement Evening. Dinner will be provided​.
