Toronto Catholic District School Board Students Win Awards at the 34th Annual french public-Speaking Competition

Mississauga – Students from grades 4 to 12 participated at the 34th annual provincial French public-speaking event, Concours et festival d'art oratoire, organized by the Ontario branch of Canadian Parents for French (CPF).


On Saturday, May 54h, Canadian Parents for French (Ontario) welcomed over 300 students from 22 school boards and 11 independent schools from across Ontario to the provincial event at York University’s Glendon College in Toronto. Students presented an original speech before a panel of officials recruited by the Ontario Modern Language Teachers' Association (OMLTA).


Students in grades 4 to 8 took part in a non-competitive festival at the event showcasing their learned French language and persuasive public-speaking skills. Students in grades 9 to 12 participated in a competitive Concours in both the Traditional and Impromptu Divisions for cash prizes and partial scholarships to York University’s Glendon College and the University of Ottawa.


The following four students from Toronto Catholic District School Board won:

  • 1st Concours Traditional Core Taylor Dallin 10 Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts
  • 1st Concours Traditional Immersion Kaitlin Gallant 11 Bishop Allen Academy Catholic
    Secondary School
  • 1st Concours Traditional Francophone Claudia Sassa 11 Blessed Cardinal Newman High School
  • 1st Concours Traditional Extended Inez Wirawan 12 Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary School
