Safe Schools Student Ambassador Symposium: 

Be Safe & Healthy: Connections, Communication and Cannabis

The next Safe Schools Student Ambassadors Symposium will be held on April 2, 2019 at Montecassino Place Banquet Hall, Salons A & B (3710 Chesswood Dr). This will be the final symposium for this school year, so please encourage your supervisors and students to attend. Please advise participants that we will begin promptly at 9:15 a.m.
The theme for this symposium is: Be Safe & Healthy: Connections, Communication and Cannabis. The following are some highlights for the day:
  • Keynote speaker, Anthony McLean, will focus on the importance of inclusion and acceptance to promote Healthy Relationships and eradicate bullying.
  • Safe Schools Advisors, Marcia King & Trish McLean, will continue the conversations related to Restorative Practices, The Student Perspective.
  • I Pledge Video Presentations
  • Safe Schools Grant Project Presentations
  • Joint Toronto Police Service & CAMH Presentation on Cannabis: Police & Mental Health Perspective
  • Safe Schools Administrator, Todd Visinski, will address the topic: Cannabis & School: Has Anything Changed?
  • Safe Schools Advisor, Dianne Banasco, & former TCDSB Student Leadership Teacher, Greg Rogers, will address the importance to Put on Your Air Mask First: Why Strengths & Taking Care of Yourself Matter
  • Michael Consul, TCDSB Student Leadership Teacher, will facilitate activities promoting Positive Relationships among Student Ambassadors present at the event.


Attached please find a Safe Schools Student Ambassador Symposium and invitation and permission form for this event. Kindly complete and sign the permission form and provide a copy to students attending the symposium.  Permission forms (with parent signature) should be returned to you. 


We also ask that you invite one teacher to attend the symposium with your students. We believe that the chosen teacher will play a critical role in supporting the Safe Schools Student Ambassadors at the symposium and in the implementation of initiatives at the school level. It is recommended that the teacher be a member of your Safe and Accepting Schools Team.  Code 83 is available for teacher coverage.
