Toronto Catholic District School Board

TCDSB Announces Selection of

New Director of Education

June 13, 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff and Students:
We are pleased to announce the selection of Mr. Rory McGuckin as the new Director of Education for the Toronto Catholic District School Board, effective August 1, 2017.
Mr. McGuckin has been a key member of the senior administrative team since 2010, most recently serving as Associate Director of Academic Affairs. A highly respected educator, he has worked in various capacities within the MSSB/TCDSB for 33 years.  Prior to his appointment as Associate Director, Mr. McGuckin served as Superintendent of Human Resources and Labour Relations, and held other crucial leadership portfolios supporting the Board’s work as head of the Safe Schools Department, overseeing governance and policy development, and direct responsibilities for Parent Engagement and Community Relations. As a graduate of TCDSB, he brings a unique and intimate perspective having attended St. Andrew Catholic School and Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School.
This decision is the result of a comprehensive process undertaken by an Executive Search Committee comprised of members of the Board of Trustees. We want to convey our appreciation to the international executive search firm, retained by the Board, for their expertise and due diligence in guiding our work to find the best candidate.  Our thanks also go out to the many Catholic community stakeholders and staff who participated in the initial engagement and consultation phase. Your feedback, thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.
At this time, we want to acknowledge Angela Gauthier’s lifelong contributions to the success of our Board as a tireless and passionate advocate for the academic achievement and wellbeing of our students throughout her 40 year career. She leaves the TCDSB well positioned for future success as the Board continues its mission to graduate students who are ready to transform the world through witness, faith, innovation and action.
Please join all of us in extending our congratulations and best wishes to Mr. McGuckin as he assumes this new role leading our Board forward through our Multi-Year Strategic Plan, with its continued focus on Catholic School Graduate Expectations, student success and achievement.

Efforts are already underway to ensure a smooth transition over the summer months in preparation for the beginning of the 2017-2018 academic year in September.
Thank you for your continued support and faith in the TCDSB and Catholic Education.
