Toronto Catholic District School Board

Student Award Recipients Honored at Year End Mass

Three exceptional grade 12 students were honored at TCDSB’s Year End Mass at the Catholic Education Centre on June 26th, 2019.

Shane from Neil McNeil High School and Olaronke from Father Henry Carr were this year’s recipients of The Angel Foundation for Learning Tom Leon Bursaries. The bursaries, of $5,000 each, are to help with post-secondary tuition costs and are awarded to students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, contributions to their school and community, and Catholic values.

Erica Wang of Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts is this year’s recipient of the Catherine Temple Mathematics Award. The $4,000 scholarship is awarded to a grade 12 female student with superior academic standing, who has contributed to her school community, and who is pursuing a mathematics related field. Erica, with an already extensive resume including entrepreneurial ventures, will begin studying software engineering at the University of Waterloo this fall.

Connie Leon (widow of Tom Leon), Catherine Temple, and Nancy Murdocca, Chair of the Angel Foundation for Learning, were all on hand to present the awards to these deserving students. Congratulations to Shane, Olaronke, and Erica – we know that you will make TCDSB proud in your post-secondary careers and beyond!
