May is
Awareness Month!

View the May 2 Bulletin.
Approximately 1 in 6 students have a speech, language and/or hearing disorder that may impact academic success and social relationships.

The month of May is recognized as Speech, Language and Hearing Awareness Month. Staff in the Speech and Language Department and the D/HH Department at TCDSB will be observing the month of May by providing information about the importance of speech, language and hearing awareness.

“Every major reading comprehension strategy can be taught in the Early Years through listening and speaking activities.”

(J. Pikulski, International Reading Association Conference, 2007)
Your school Speech-Language team and your Deaf/Hard of Hearing team provide a wide spectrum of services (e.g., early identification, assessment, intervention, consultation and programming) to support students who present with communication challenges and help them to be successful in school.
