WENTT (Women Entering Non-Traditional Trades) Conference

The 4th annual WENTT Conference welcomed female students from secondary schools across the TCDSB to Humber College (North Campus). The morning began with a welcome address by Associate Director of Academic Affairs Rory McGuckin and a keynote address by Nicole Ross, a part-time female carpenter and full-time TCDSB staff member who brought awareness of the variety of opportunities that exist in the skilled trades in Ontario and throughout Canada.

The students then proceeded to 12 different workshops for experiential learning. The workshops focused on trades in which women are underrepresented such as Electrical, Heating and Air, Welding, Carpentry, Automotive, Construction and Plumbing. Students used welding tools, hammers, sandpaper, and pipe cutters, to name a few, as they worked on several projects. The conference is part of the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) which educates and trains students in specific skills related to a profession and provides them with hands on experience.
