Academic (ENG 1D)

This course is designed to further develop the oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy skills that students need for success in their secondary school academic programs and in their daily lives. Students will be analyzing literary texts from contemporary and historical time periods, interpreting informational and graphic texts, and creating oral, written, and media texts in a variety of forms.​

A​​pplied (ENG 1P)

This course is designed to further develop key oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy skills that students need for success in secondary school and daily life. Students will be reading, interpreting, and creating a variety of informational, literary, and graphic texts. An important focus will be on identifying and using appropriate strategies and processes to improve students' comprehension of texts and to help them communicate clearly and effectively.

Locally Developed (​ENG 1L)

This course is designed to provide foundational literacy and communication skills to prepare students for success in secondary school, in the workplace, and in their daily lives. Students will further develop their reading and writing skills through a variety of narrative and expository forms, poetry, and drama, and will be practicing the skills necessary for clear and accurate spoken and written language. ​
