Canadian and World Studies/Social Science and Humanities

The Canadian and World Studies/Social Science and Humanities department consists of two sub-departments: Canadian and World Studies and Social Science and Humanities. The courses in our CWS/SSH department encourage critical thinking skills, invesigative learning, asking questions and classroom discussion.  We also teach primary and secondary source research, research methods, theories/philosophies, and essay writing skills.

*Some of our senior courses are major courses for the Non profit sector SHSM.

We use a variety of tools to enhance student learning such as, Google apps for education, videos, music, scrapbooks, simulations, guest speakers and field trips. Students are encouraged to collaborate with one another, intelligent debate and discuss issues, problems, theories, newspaper articles, and cases.

Some examples of field trips are:

Camping  - Grade 9 Geography
Spadina House and the Toronto Archives - Grade 10 history
Queen's Park - Grade 10 Civics
The Ontario Supreme Court - Grade 11 and 12 Law
The ROM - Grade 11 Anthro, Psych, and Soci
