Democracy in Canada
Our students in the Teacher Advisory/Orientation Program participated in a workshop entitled Democracy in Canada. We had a guest speaker from North York Community House (NYCH) who worked closely with myself, and our team of teachers, to plan and facilitate a very meaningful and engaging discussion/activity. The girls learned about the different levels of Government, the appointments of the representatives to a parliament and their roles and responsibilities.
At the end of the discussion/lesson, they made their very own Democracy bracelets! Each color represented the importance of a democratic spirit (equality of rights, privileges, political or social equality, etc).
