Picking Up Student Items

Beginning on June 19th, parents are able to come to the school to pick up student items. Please see the schedule below.

 

In order for items to be collected safety we ask for your participation in our procedures below.

 

Entry Procedure:
 
Before arriving at the school, please ensure that you have no symptoms associated with COVID-19. Please see attached survey screening self-assessment. If you say yes to anything, DO NOT COME TO THE SCHOOL.

 

 

 

We will be using the side doors in the gym for item pick up. When you enter the parking lot you will see the two centre doors. Please do not come to the main office, or any other door as no one will be there. We will open the side gates for additional parking.

 

 

 

Step 1: Line Up

 

Once at the door, you will see an entry and exit door. Line up in the area with the pylons. Please use the sections painted on the ground to distance yourself from others.
 

 

Step 2: Sanitize

 

Once you are able to enter, please sanitize your hands
 

 

Step 3: School Property Drop Off

 

Drop off any Textbooks, musical instruments or any other school property.
 

 

Step 4: Collect Items

 

Collect items from table
  • Hard copies of Report cards will be distributed
  • Cash Pizza money will be distributed
  • If you have an older sibling, please tell the staff and they will collect it. All siblings items should be collected at one visit
 

 

Step 5: Lost and Found
Look for any items in the Lost and Found table
 
Step 6: Exit
Exit using exit door

 

 
Please look through your bagged items carefully. As there may be important items and information.

Computers:

 

If you are borrowing a school computer, and you are returning to school in September, please keep it and care for it. It may be needed in September. If you are not returning, please drop off the computer.
All Grade 8’s students must return their borrowed computer

 

 
If you are unable to collect the items:
All student items will be stored at the school over the summer. Please make a effort to collect the items as storage for these items is challenging.

 

An electronic report card will be emailed.
 

 

Socializing:

 

We are all aware of the temptation to socialize with our friends and school community members since we have not seen each other in such a long period of time. Please try to keep socializing to a minimum as we want to make sure we are all adhering to the social distancing guidelines and gathering numbers. Thank you for your understanding.

Distance Learning

Beginning March 23rd, Pope Francis School will be participating in distance learning as a result of COVID-19. If you have not been in contact with your child's teacher, please send Mr. Howlett an email. brett.howlett@tcdsb.org All classrooms will be providing work for students to complete during our distance learning time. Below is a break down of the expected time on task for distance learning.

University of Toronto Buddy Up Program

On March 11th the Varsity athletes from the University of Toronto joined our Grade 6's for some hands on learning and physical activity.

Thank you athletes for joining us and teaching us about team work and co-operation.





Grade 8 Geometry

Before the March Break, the Grade 8's were very busy in class. They were designing bridges to practice their skills as future engineers. Hopefully they used the design concepts learned in class to build a strong and stable structures. Well done Grade 8's!





Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday

On February 25th our community celebrated the Catholic tradition of Shrove Tuesday. The day before the start of Lent when we clear out the cupboards in preparation for 40 days of fasting and alms giving.

Thank you Lunch Lady for donating all of the pancake mix for our special day as well, thank you to the CSPC and the many parent volunteers for cooking the delicious pancakes.




CSPC Movie Night

Join us in the gym on March 6th for a family movie night. All are welcome.

Toronto Marlies Game

On February 19th, the Gr 6, 7, & 8 students travelled to the Coca-Cola Coliseum to watch the Toronto Marlies play. It was a very exciting game. Thank you to the Angel Foundation for organizing the event. A portion of all tickets sales are used to support the Angel Foundation, which in turns supports our school nutrition program. Thank you Mr. Camilleri for organizing the event.



Valentine's Dance

On February 13th the Gr. 8's hosted the school for their annual Valentine's Day dance. A great time was had by all! Thank you Gr. 8's and Mr. Camilleri for organizing the dance.



Intermediate Basketball

On February 4 and 5th, the boys and girls basketball teams were in full swing. They both played in their respective tournaments hosted at Pope Francis. With many surrounding school teams arriving prepared and ready, they were in for a tough day of competition. Thank you to Mr. Walsh and Mr. Noto for preparing the teams for action.





Bell Let's Talk Day

 

Throughout the month of January, Pope Francis’s Mindfulness Club has been promoting mental health. Daily announcements have been made to the school community about how to ask for help if you are feeling down or ways that you can maintain a positive mind set. January 29th, is Bell Let’s Talk Day, Bell will donate money towards mental health initiatives in Canada by contributing 5¢ for every applicable text, call, tweet, social media video view and use of our Facebook frame or Snapchat filter.
Below you can see some of the messages, created by the students on some strategies or phrases on how to get help and keep positive even when facing difficult or challenging times. Let’s all work together to support each other and stop the stigma of mental health.

Remembrance Day Assembly

On November 11th, the school gathered together to show our respect for the many Canadian people who demonstrated their bravery in the many peacekeeping missions and wars that Canadians were involved in. We will always remember their sacrifice and efforts for our freedom. Thank you Mr. Mason for sharing your gift of song.


Intermediate Boys Volleyball

On November 5th the Gr. 7 & 8 boys participated in their volleyball tournament at Pope Francis. There was very difficult competition as the community teams all came well prepared. At the end of the tournament, it was our boys team that were named Champions! Great job boys we are very proud of your accomplishments!


Girls Intermediate Volleyball

On November 6th the girls Intermediate Volleyball Team hosted some of the neighboring schools in their divisional tournament. The girls played very well and demonstrated great school spirit and sportspersonship in their efforts. When the tournament was completed the girls finished in 3rd place. Great job girls and thank you to the coaches, Ms. DiCiocco and Mr. Camilleri.


Halloween Dance

 

On October 31st the school participated in a Halloween Dance. All grades had a great time and demonstrated their Halloween Spirit.

Gr. 7 & 8's go to Lake St. George

On October 16, 17, & 18th the Gr 7 & 8 students and teachers travelled north of the city to experience some outdoor education and learning. A great time was had by all and the students appreciated the beautiful surroundings and the opportunity to participate in a different type of learning. The boy's also made history as they were the first Pope Francis group ever to have zero food waste for their trip. Great job boys! Thank you to the staff for organizing the trip and making sure we all had a great time.




Gr 5/6 Visit the Legislative Assembly

On October 15th the Gr. 5/6 class visited the Legislative Assembly at Queen's Park. The students were able to see and experience some of the political process first hand. They were even able to meet and great an MPP.



Terry Fox Walk

On September 25th the staff and students at Pope Francis participated in the annual Terry Fox walk around the neighborhood. It was a lot of fun and exercise. In addition to the fun, the school surpassed their fundraising goal. Over $900 was raised for the Terry Fox foundation. Thank you to all the families that contributed!!!

ECO Club Has Grown More Than A Few Plants!

Just take a look at the front entrance of Pope Francis and you will see something has changed. The efforts of the ECO club are paying off with many new additions. Sun Flowers and Wild Flowers are in bloom! The students started these plants as seedlings in their classrooms. In May, they planted them outside and with some help from Mother Nature, 2 meter tall plants have grown! Great job ECO club and thank you Ms. Henderson for all your efforts!
