Breaking the Ground for
the New Bishop Macdonell Catholic School
Construction has officially begun at Canoe Landing’s new multi-use facility and future home to Bishop Macdonell Catholic School.
Toronto Mayor John Tory, Councillor James Pasternak (Ward 10 York Centre), Chair of the Community Development and Recreation Committee, Councillor Joe Cressy (Ward 20 Trinity-Spadina), Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Chair Robin Pilkey, Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) Vice-Chair Frank D'Amico, TDSB Trustee Ausma Malik and TCDSB Trustee Jo-Ann Davis were on hand for the official sod turning which took place on September 13, 2017.
Mayor John Tory shared his excitement about commencing this project and emphasized the necessity of this new multi-use facility to the growing community surrounding it. Integrated with the neighbouring Canoe Landing Park, the new facility will include two elementary schools, a community centre and child care centre. Bishop Macdonell Catholic School and Jean Lumb Public School will each serve 550 children from kindergarten to Grade 8. Notable features of the facility include a green roof, shared gym, separate outdoor play areas for each age group and numerous energy efficiency elements within a modern, three-story structure.
