Toronto Catholic District School Board

Information Meeting and Consultation Session Regarding Proposed French Immersion Program

Tuesday October 10, 2017
7:00 pm at Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School
(1515 Bloor St W, Toronto)

Dear Parents and Staff:

As part of the Toronto Catholic District School Board’s ongoing responsibility to offer dynamic educational opportunities across the City of Toronto, the Board has created a draft Long Term Program Plan (LTPP). Aspects of the plan include opportunities for enhanced programming including the introduction of French Immersion Programs at additional school sites.
The LTPP is a living document that is reviewed regularly by the Board.  To contribute to the flexibility that is built into the plan, community consultation takes place prior to moving forward with any proposed program changes suggested in the draft document.  Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School and Regional Arts Centre is one of the sites where the addition of French Immersion Programming is being considered for September 2018.  The model to be discussed includes the gradual implementation of French Immersion beginning in Grade 9.  As a nearby school community with French Immersion students an established elementary French Immersion Program, you may be interested in participating in the consultation process.
An evening of consultation regarding French Immersion programming will take place on Tuesday October 10, 2017 at 7:00 pm at Bishop Marrocco/Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School (1515 Bloor St W, Toronto). At the meeting, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about Secondary School French Immersion programming, participate in roundtable discussion and complete a survey.  Your input and feedback is very important to us and essential to informing the Board’s program plans for the school.

The meeting will be attended by members of the BMTM school community, invited members of the greater community, staff from the TCDSB French Department, Trustee Barbara Poplawski, an administrator from another school that has recently implemented FI and other senior staff.
We thank you in advance for your participation and input and we look forward to meeting you later this month.
