Throughout the Week, we will listen to the stories of the survivors every day on the PA following our National Anthem. Students are invited to see the award-winning pencil drawings done by Newman Visual Art students in the Student Services foyer as well as the display in front of the Chapel near the Peace Garden.
 
Thursday, Nov. 3rd   
Movie: Woman in Gold (part 1)   
Join us in the Auditorium during period 1 as we watch the film Woman in Gold, the true story of Maria Altmann, an elderly Jewish refugee, who together with her lawyer, fought the Austrian government to reclaim Gustav Klimt’s iconic painting of her aunt, which was stolen by the Nazis in Vienna just prior to World War II.

Monday, Nov. 7th
Movie: The Book Thief (part 1)
Join us in the Auditorium during period 4 as we watch the film The Book Thief, a story about a young girl living with her adoptive German family during the Nazi era. Taught to read by her kind-hearted foster father, the girl begins “borrowing” books and sharing them with the Jewish refugee being sheltered by her foster parents in their home.

Wed., Nov. 9th
Holocaust Child Survivor: Sally Wasserman
The Museum of Poles Saving Jews in WWII opened in Poland in March 2016.  Its mission is to commemorate those who risked or lost their lives observing universal human values under Nazi persecution in Poland.  The film Servants of God honours Jozef and Wiktoria Ulma and other Righteous Among the Nations.  Following the screening of the film, Holocaust survivor Sally Wasserman, will give her personal testimony of her rescue by the Polish couple.

  • All grade 9 and 10 classes are to go to the Auditorium during period 2 (9:55 – 11:10).  
  • All grade 11 and 12 classes are to go to the Auditorium during period 4 (1:10 – 2:30). 
Thurs., Nov. 10th
The Horrors of the Concentration Camps and the March of the Living
Join us in the Auditorium during period 1 as we learn about the horrors of Auschwitz-Birkenau and Majdanek concentration and death camps.
