Saint John Henry Newman
Celebratory Mass

On the 13th October 2019, John Henry Newman was canonized in a service at the Vatican.

On Monday 21st October, the community at Blessed Cardinal Newman High School in Scarborough, Ontario celebrated Saint John Henry Newman's canonization in two masses. Thomas Cardinal Collins was the chief celebrant, joined by members of our neighbouring community - St Augustine's Seminary, as well as our parish priest and others. Invited guests included the TCDSB Director of Education, Rory McGuckin, our Trustee Nancy Crawford and our Superintendent Kevin Malcolm.

The mass was memorable and marked the conclusion of a week of activities at Blessed Cardinal Newman High School to commemorate and increase our understanding of our patron saint, Saint John Henry Newman.

The video shows some of the highlights of the two masses. Cardinal Collins' homily connected the humble, unassuming nature of Newman, his perseverance and dedication to his pastoral duties to the affection that the members of his community displayed during his life and to the great legacy that he left to us in education.
