First – Please note the following change to the school schedules next week.

 
Monday, June 24 is an Exam Day.  
Tuesday, June 25 is an Exam Review Day.  The schedule for the day is as follows:
P.1 8:40-9:30 am
P.2 9:35-10:25 am
P.3 10:30-11:20 am
P.4 11:25-12:15 pm
Students dismissed at 12:15 pm

 
Unless the student is absent with parental permission, students are expected to be at school as this is an attendance-taking day.  Teachers will be available to review exams with students.  This is a free casual day for all students. Students are encouraged to bring in their used and unwanted uniforms for the Used Uniform Sale.

 
Second – Final Report Cards will be available for pick-up in the main office beginning Wednesday, July 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The office is open until Friday, July 12.

 
Third – For Graduates only: Wednesday, June 26 is the Graduation Mass at 9:00 a.m. in the school gymnasium. Graduates must be in business casual clothing.   Breakfast will be served in the Atrium immediately following the Mass. Graduation rehearsal begins at 12:00 p.m. in the gymnasium. Gowns and invitations will be distributed after the rehearsal. Only the graduate can pick up gowns and invitations. 
Thursday, June 27 is Graduation day at Brighton Convention Centre, 2155 McNicoll Avenue. Graduates are to arrive and assemble at 9:00 a.m. The ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. sharp.  Guests must have their tickets to enter and gowns must be returned by 1:00 p.m. 

 
Fourth – The Brebeuf Annual Used Uniform sale will be held on Friday, July 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Brebeuf Cafeteria.  If your son has outgrown any of his uniform pieces, please consider either donating or selling them on consignment through this sale.  If you need to purchase other uniform items for your son for next year, please consider coming to the sale first to see what’s available.  All money raised are used to assist various initiatives at Brebeuf, such as Kairos and Salesian retreats, team sponsorships and other programs that directly benefit all of our Brebeuf students.  Consignment slips and further information has been attached to your email or you can download them from the Brebeuf website under the ‘For Parents’ tab.  Forms are also available in the main office.

 
Fifth – The school office will be open until Friday, July 12 and will re-open on Monday, August 19.  This is the last school message of the school year. Have a safe and restful summer.  Any further announcements will be posted on our school website.

 

 
June 15, 2109

 
First – Semester 2 exams begin on Tuesday, June 18 with the period one exams and continue through to Friday, June 21.  Monday, June 24 is Exam Review Day from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Teachers will be available to provide time for students to go over their exams.

 
Second – Locker cleanup for students begins on June 14.  Lockers are to be vacated by June 21.  Students must take their locks with them to be used next year.

 
Third – A revision to the ISP schedule has been made.  All ISP classes will continue on a regular schedule until Tuesday, June 25.

June 9, 2019

 
First – On Monday, June 10 we will be on an early dismissal schedule.  Classes will be dismissed at 2:15 p.m. on that day.

 
Second – There will be a Service and Leadership trip to Grenada taking place in March 2020. Students will work with Presentation Brother schools and a grade 11 and grade 12 University Credit. Interested students are invited to attend a meeting after school on June 11 in the Library. 

 
Third – The Brebeuf Athletic Banquet will be held on Wednesday, June 12 at 3:00 p.m.   Tickets are free for athletes who have ordered them.

 
Fourth – On Wednesday, June 12 and Thursday, June 13 our Grade 9 students will be writing the Grade 9 EQAO assessment in mathematics.  Further information will be sent home with the students.

Information regarding the Graduation ceremony and events was given out to students. It has been posted to the Brebeuf website under "Calendar and Regularly Scheduled Events".  Copies are also available in the main office. Please contact Mr. DaCosta for further information. 
Second – Thursday, June 6 is a casual day for students who bring in $2.00.

 
Third – Friday, June 7 is Raptor Jersey Day.  Students can show their support by wearing a Raptor Jersey along with the regulated pants and shoes.

Third – Brebeuf College is pleased to announce a 12-day experience for the 2019-2020 school year that will take place in Rome and Assisi.  This experience is intended for 20 to 30 students within the entire Brebeuf community ranging from incoming grade 9 students to grade 12 students.  The journey is intended to enlighten and inspire, and is sure to promote a life-altering experience of spiritual growth.  Please join us for a parent information meeting on Tuesday, May 28 at 8:00 p.m. in Room 314.  If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Gregoris, Mr. Guy or Mr. Rebello.

 

Fourth – The Brebeuf Prom will be on Thursday, May 30 at Presidente Banquet Hall from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased in the guidance office with a completed permission form. 

 

Fifth – Brebeuf will be participating in the Best Buy Store recycling event.  Bring personal electronics and e-waste to Best Buy stores for recycling between May 24 and June 2 and obtain ballots from Best Buy employees for each item.  Bring the ballots to the main office by June 6 to be submitted into the draw for an individual $500 gift card and $2500 for the school. First – Monday, May 20 is the Victoria Day Statutory Holiday and there are no classes scheduled for that day.  Classes resume on Tuesday, May 21.

 

SecondA multicultural celebration will be held on Wednesday, May 22 and Thursday, May 23.  Please encourage your son to sign up and participate. Parents and guardians are invited to sponsor pavilions by donating cultural food items or dishes.  Passports are being sold for $7.00 to all staff and students. This will include a multicultural lunch, casual day, and an assembly highlighting different cultures.  

 

Third – Cafeteria service will be reduced on Thursday, May 23 for Multicultural Day and closed on Friday, May 24 for a BBQ fundraiser for our Intensive Support Program. 

 

Fourth – The next and final CSPC meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 29 in the school Library and not on May 28 as stated in the school agenda.  All parents and guardians are welcome to attend.

First – Please note the late start scheduled for Tuesday, May 14 has been moved to Thursday, May 16.  We will be on a regular schedule on May 14.  All students are expected to arrive for school by 9:45 a.m. on May 16.

 

Second – Brebeuf’s annual Spring Arts Festival will be held on Thursday, May 16.  It will feature the creative achievements of the Music and Visual Arts Students.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and everyone is welcome to join us for the visual displays by our Art students. Tickets for the music concert are sold separately at the theatre entrance for $5.00.  The music performance begins at 7:00 p.m. in the theatre. 

 

Third – Letters of Concern will be mailed next week to students who are in risk in one or more courses.

 

Fourth – Summer School registration begins on Monday, May 13. Registration forms are now available in the Guidance office.

First – There will be an OSAP/Financial aid presentation for parents and guardians of grade 12 students on Tuesday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the Brebeuf Theatre.  Students are welcome to attend with their parents if they wish.

 
Second – Also on Tuesday, May 7, the school and Brebeuf's Catholic School Parent Council (CSPC) will be hosting a Budget Consultation meeting in the school library at 7:30 p.m. in order to discuss local budget priorities.  We will be submitting one completed survey reflecting our CSPC’s feedback to the school board.  All parents and guardians are invited to attend the meeting.  We hope you can join us.

 
Third – There is a Pub Night reunion for all Brebeuf alumni on Friday, May 10 from 7:00 p.m. to midnight.  More details can be found on the alumni website at www.brebeufalumni.org.

Seven – Please find attached to your email a letter to the MPP for this area and two petitions addressing some of the cuts to education. The petitions were written based on a motion presented to the TCDSB by the TCDSB Student Trustees earlier this month.  Brebeuf’s CSPC invites parents to sign the petition, which was created by the Parent Council, and return it to the school. Once a significant number of letters have been received, they will be delivered to the MPP. Please note that this message comes from the Parent Council, not the school.

First – Our next Parent Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the school library.  Our Public Health Nurse, Donna Psaila will be doing a short presentation on the effects of e-cigarettes and vaping.  All parents and guardians are welcome to attend.

 
Second – We have a late start schedule on Wednesday, April 24.  All students are expected to arrive for school by 9:45 a.m.

 
Third – Attention parents of Grade 12 students: Information regarding the Graduation ceremony and events was given out to students. Request for Parent-Teacher Interview forms will be distributed to students next week.  Please have your son return the completed form to his homeroom teacher as soon as possible. Interviews will take place on Thursday, May 2 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Classes will be dismissed at 2:15 p.m. on this day.

 
Fifth – The Spring Brebeuf Dance is Friday, April 26 featuring a new DJ and a Grade 11 Brebeuf student performing two original rap pieces. Tickets will be on sale during both lunches.  Please encourage your son to participate by buying a ticket. 

 
Sixth – Attached to your email, on behalf of the Trustee Rizzo, please find information regarding the one-year memorial of the Yonge Street Tragedy.  A remembering and healing gathering will take place on Tuesday, April 23.

Second Thursday, April 11 is a casual day for students who bring in $2.00.  All proceeds will go to ShareLife.  Please note that the casual day on Friday  April 12 as listed in the agenda is an error.

 

Third – On Holy Thursday, April 11, Brebeuf will once again hold our annual VICS Fastathon. Please encourage your son to participate or support the event.

 

Fourth Grade 12 students requesting to return to Brebeuf College for a fifth year can now apply by picking up an application package in the Guidance Office.  The deadline to submit the completed package to the Guidance Office is Friday, April 12.

March 23, 2019


 

First– On Wednesday, March 27, the Grade 10 EQAO Literacy test will be administered. All Grade 9 and 10 students and those students in grade 11 and 12 writing the test are expected to be in school for a regular 8:40 a.m. start.  Detailed information regarding the schedule for all students has been sent home with your son.


 

Second – Grade 12 students requesting to return to Brebeuf College for a fifth year can now apply by picking up an application package in the Guidance Office.  Course verification forms were distributed to all students this week.  If any courses need to be changed - please make the changes on the form and return it to the guidance office signed by a parent or guardian by Friday March 29.  The deadline to submit the completed package to the Guidance Office is 

Friday, April 12.


 

Third – Please note that with the installation of new security card scanners, school doors will be locked at all times except for the front door and the east door.  The east door will be locked at 9:15 am, and once a security intercom has been installed, the front door will also be locked at 9:15 am.  Parents and students will be notified of any further changes due to security reasons.


 

Fourth –Spirit Week will be celebrated next week.  Activities will take place during both lunches all week and will include an inflatable challenge/obstacle course, chess with Mr. Lamb, and much more. 


 

Fifth – The spring uniform will begin on Monday, April 1. Please ensure that your son is in proper uniform.

First – Lent begins on Wednesday, March 6. The school will celebrate Ash Wednesday with Mass and distribution of ashes.


 

Second– Early Assessment Letters for Semester Two will be mailed out next week.


 

Third- Parents are kindly asked to remind their sons that in accordance with the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, smoking, vaping and the use of tobacco products including chewing tobacco, electronic cigarettes and vaping products is prohibited at all times in our school building and on our school property.  All e-substances are covered by legislation regardless if the e-substance contains nicotine. ​ 


 
February 9, 2019

 

First – Wednesday, February 13 is Career Day at Brebeuf.  All grade 9 and 10 students will attend two sessions in period 2 from two professionals of their choice, and the rest of the school will participate in career-related curriculum. 


 

Second – Reports Cards will be distributed on Thursday, February 14. Students can also see their marks online using My Blueprint.


 

Third – Brebeuf College School is offering an After School Literacy Test Preparation program for all grade 10 and 11 students who will be writing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) in March.  There is no cost for this program. The program starts Feb 19. For more information, please contact Mrs. Risi at  maria.risi@tcdsb.org.


 

Fourth – Friday, February 15 is a PA day and there are no classes scheduled.  Also, the school will be closed on Monday, February 18 for Family Day.


 

Fifth – Graduation Photo Retake Day is Thursday, February 21.  An instruction brochure is available in the main office as they must book their appointment on-line. New students who arrived 2nd semester will also have an opportunity to take their photo and obtain a student ID card on that day.


 

Sixth – Guidance counsellors are now helping students select courses for next year using My Blueprint, an online application. Brebeuf students have received a Course Selection Companion booklet to help with the 2019-2020 Course Selection process.  Course selection for current grade 9, 10 and 11 students must be completed by March 1.  After this date, there will be limited opportunity to change courses as we will be creating the school schedule based on the needs. 


 

SevenBrebeuf Winter Activity Day is scheduled for Friday, March 1.  An information package and registration form has been sent home with all students.  As this is a regularly scheduled school day, all students will be participating in an activity (there are some at the school).  Your son must sign up and return the permission form and fees to his homeroom teacher before February 22.  Additional packages are available in the main office.


 
February 2, 2019

 
First – Second semester classes begin on Monday, February 4.  Students are to pick up their semester two timetable in the atrium beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Classes will begin at 8:40 a.m.  Students will have an opportunity to review their exams with their semester one teachers on Friday, February 8.  Report cards will be distributed on Thursday, February 14.

 
Second – Thursday, February 7 is a casual day for students who bring in $2.00.  As well, on Friday, February 8, the TCDSB will be participating in National Sweater Day and as such, the temperature of our school will be lowered by 2 degrees. All members of the community are encouraged to wear bright and fun sweaters on that day, while maintaining school uniform pants. This is an annual event initiated by the World Wildlife Fund and is designed to be a fun way to learn the importance of saving energy and inspire us to use less energy all winter.

 
Third – Registration and Activity Fee collection took place this past week. If your son has not registered for next year, please have him complete the form and return it with the activity fee to the main office as soon as possible.

 
Fourth – Thank you for your patience in the parking lot and for following the protocol for dropping students off.  We would also request that when a left turn is being made onto Steeles Ave. upon exiting the parking lot, please allow for a lane for cars to enter the driveway.  We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

First – Examination information has been distributed to all students.  Exams begin on Monday, January 28 with the period one exams and continue through to Thursday, January 31.  Students should be in school by 8:45 a.m. and in complete uniform.  Exams begin promptly at 9:00 a.m.  Students who are unable to write an exam due to illness must bring in a medical note, and can write their exam on Friday, February 1.  Parents or guardians must contact the attendance office immediately to inform the school.


 

Second – Registration information for the 2019-2020 school year has been distributed to all grade 9, 10 and 11 students.  Grade 12 students wishing to return to Brebeuf for a fifth year can pick up an application to return after the March Break. Registration and Activity Fee collection for next year will take place starting at 10:30 a.m. after the exams.  This year’s Grade 9 students will register on Monday, January 28, students currently in Grade 10 register on Tuesday, January 29, and students currently in Grade 11 register on Wednesday, January 30.

Fifth – Registration information for the 2019-2020 school year has been distributed to all grade 9, 10 and 11 students.  Grade 12 students wishing to return to Brebeuf for a fifth year can pick up an application to return after the March Break. Registration and Activity Fee collection for next year will take place starting at 10:30 a.m. after the exams.  This year’s Grade 9 students will register on Monday, January 28, students currently in Grade 10 register on Tuesday, January 29, and students currently in Grade 11 register on Wednesday, January 30. 


 

Sixth – A reminder that Semester One exams for students begin the week of January 28.  Examination information has been distributed to students.  Students who are unable to write an exam due to illness must bring in a medical note, and can write their exam on Friday, February 1. Semester Two will begin on Monday, February 4.


 

Seven – On behalf of the Blessed Trinity Youth Ministry, please consider volunteering on Sunday, January 27 as they visit the elderly residents of CareFree Lodge at 306 Finch Avenue East.  Complete and return the permission form attached to your email as soon as possible.

First – Friday, December 22 is a free casual day for all students.  All students are encouraged to wear a Christmas-themed sweater.

 
Second – Graduation portraits will be taken from January 15 to January 25 in the school Library.  An instruction brochure was given to all graduates as they must book their appointment on-line.  

 
Third – All potential graduates are reminded that university applications are due by Wednesday, January 16, and college applications are due by Friday, February 1, 2019.  The Christmas Break is an excellent time to submit all applications ahead of the final deadline dates. First – Brebeuf will hosting their 33rd annual Christmas food drive, "Can Aid ", from Monday, December 10 to Monday, December 17.  Our students are asked to bring in non-perishable food items.  Competition will include a casual day on Friday, December 14 which will cost $2.00 or four cans. All monetary proceeds and food will be donated to The Good Shepherd Mission.  Please keep us in mind when you shop for groceries this weekend. 

 
Second – We have a late start schedule on Tuesday, December 11.  All students are expected to arrive for school by 9:45 a.m.

University PIN numbers for grade 12 students have arrived and are available for pick-up in the Guidance office.  You are also encouraged to sign-up for a University or College workshop in Guidance beginning Monday, October 22.

Sixth – Brebeuf College School is offering an After School Literacy Test Preparation program for all grade 10 and 11 students who will be writing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) in March.  There is no cost for this program. Nine – On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, cannabis became legal in Ontario and the rest of Canada. The Toronto Catholic District School Board remains committed to maintaining safe school and work environments that are welcoming and support the Board’s focus on excellence in education.  Although legislation will permit the recreational use of cannabis, the vaping, smoking, or use of lighted tobacco, cannabis/marijuana, herbal material (or any other combustible material) and electronic smoking devices are prohibited at all TCDSB schools and worksites.

First – Catholic Parent Council Elections for Brebeuf will be taking place on Tuesday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the school library.  This is the parent council’s Annual General Meeting and all parents are invited to attend even if they do not wish to vote in the election.

 
Second – On Thursday, September 27, Student Council will be hosting a BBQ and selling hamburgers and hot dogs, chips, ice cream sandwiches and drinks during both lunches. Cafeteria service will not be running in order to raise funds for Student Council initiatives. Lunch combos will range from $5.50 to $7.00. Regular cafeteria service will resume on Friday.  Also, Thursday, September 27 will be Spirit Wear Day.  Students can wear their spirit wear or Brebeuf team wear at no cost.

 
Third – There will be an International Leadership Trip heading to Ireland from Friday, March 8 to Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Our TCDSB students will be connecting with student leaders from the Presentation Boys’ Schools as well as Loretto Girls’ Schools to provide meaningful service to the Irish communities. An information evening will be held on Thursday, September 27 in the Brebeuf library at 7:00 p.m. Please contact Mr. DaCosta or Mr. Rogers for further information.

Second – On Tuesday, September 18 all Grade 9 students attending Muskoka Woods, along with the Muskoka Woods Leaders, will be participating in an Information Session in the gym until 3:30 pm. It is imperative that all those going to Muskoka Woods attend this session to receive important information. 
As a reminder, all grade 9 students attending the trip are expected to be at school on Wednesday, September 19 at 7:45 a.m. All senior student leaders attending are expected to arrive at 7:15 a.m.  All students must bring a packed lunch with them for the first day to eat upon arrival at Muskoka.  Although students are allowed to bring snacks, they must be nut-free.  Students will be returning to Brebeuf on Friday, September 21 at approximately 3:30pm and must be picked up at that time.

 
Third – The WE DAY FAMILY Evening Event is back for a third year. First – Monday, September 10 is our school photo day.  All students must carry their school-issued student photo ID as proof of age if requested by TTC staff.  The student ID must also be presented at some events such as school dances. Parents and students can now register their email to receive photo day updates straight to their inbox! Not only will you receive reminders leading up to photo day, but also receive notifications when photo proofs and packages are ready. Second – We will be having a very important information session for all the parents and students attending the Muskoka Woods Orientation.  This meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 11 at 6:30 pm in the Brebeuf Theatre. Please RSVP by emailing Ms. M. Deveci at maral.deveci@tcdsb.org 


 

Third – Thursday, September 13 is our first casual day of the year.  Just a reminder that the Student Council collects $2.00 from each student who wants to participate. These funds are used to support school events.  No headgear is permitted.

 


 

Fourth – St Cyril Elementary School will be celebrating their 60th Anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, they will be having an event for the school community and alumni on Friday, September 21 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.  They are looking for volunteers and will acknowledge volunteer hours for any students wishing to help out.
