December 15, 2018

First – Friday, December 22 is a free casual day for all students.  All students are encouraged to wear a Christmas-themed sweater.

Second – Graduation portraits will be taken from January 15 to January 25 in the school Library.  An instruction brochure was given to all graduates as they must book their appointment on-line.  

Third – All potential graduates are reminded that university applications are due by Wednesday, January 16, and college applications are due by Friday, February 1, 2019.  The Christmas Break is an excellent time to submit all applications ahead of the final deadline dates. Please check the OUAC and OCAS websites to learn about Christmas holiday Contact Centre closures.

Fourth – We encourage all parents to register for the Toronto Catholic District School Board’s new School Cash Online service.  The school is taking steps to moving online with cash transactions.  Please see the link attached to your email to get started. https://tcdsb.schoolcashonline.com/ 


December 8, 2018

First – Brebeuf will hosting their 33rd annual Christmas food drive, "Can Aid ", from Monday, December 10 to Monday, December 17.  Our students are asked to bring in non-perishable food items.  Competition will include a casual day on Friday, December 14 which will cost $2.00 or four cans. All monetary proceeds and food will be donated to The Good Shepherd Mission.  Please keep us in mind when you shop for groceries this weekend. 

Second – We have a late start schedule on Tuesday, December 11.  All students are expected to arrive for school by 9:45 a.m.

Third – Brebeuf College School is proud to be hosting our annual Christmas Arts Festival, featuring work by our visual arts students followed by a Christmas Music concert in our theatre on Wednesday, December 12.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the music concert begins at 7:30 p.m. We hope you can join us for this most entertaining evening.

December  1, 2018

First – Please be advised that Letters of Concern will be mailed next week to students who are at risk of failing one or more courses.

Second – Thursday, December 6 is a casual day for students who bring in $2.00.

Third – Friday, December 7 is a PD day and there are no classes scheduled on that day.

Fourth – During this Christmas season, we will be holding our third annual Beuf Box fundraiser for needy families in our community.  Students are asked to bring in items such as toiletries, gift cards and monetary donations to support this initiative and celebrate the season of giving. This initiative will run until December 14.  An information letter has been sent home 
with all students.

Fifth – Our annual Can-Aid drive kicks off on Monday, December 10.  Students are encouraged to bring cans of food throughout the week. 

Sixth – A special thank you to the Brebeuf Community for another successful clothing drive. With your support and generosity, we collected 3573 items that have been donated to St Vincent de Paul Society in Toronto. Thank you again for your utmost support and kindness.

Eight – This week all teachers had a discussion with their homeroom classes regarding hazing, initiation, bullying, and being a good neighbor to our community.  We have attached the information sheet regarding hazing to your email.  We encourage all parents to continue the discussion at home, and feel free to use the attached resource.  Our next step will be having conversations with all sports teams regarding this topic.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school.


November 24, 2018

First – The Brebeuf Clothing Drive in support of St. Vincent DePaul is currently under way.  Please send any clothing you can donate with your son and they will be collected from their homerooms until November 27.  

Second – Our next CSPC meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the school Library.  All parents and guardians are welcome to attend.

Third – The TCDSB is in the process of introducing a new, more efficient student absence reporting feature called SafeArrival.  Effective November 26, parents and guardians will need to report an absence using this new system.  A detailed letter and information sheet has been sent home with all students along with a fridge magnet with contact information.


November 17, 2018

Packages were distributed to all grade 9 students. Please remind your son to return the permission form to his homeroom teacher. There will be no classes for all Grade 9 students on Wednesday, November 14. The Guidance office will follow up to assist students that have yet to hand in a permission form.


 

Second  The “Request for Parent-Teacher Interview” form has been distributed to all students.  Please have your son return the completed form to his homeroom teacher as soon as possible.  Mid-Term Report Cards will be distributed at the end of the day on Tuesday, November 13.  Parent-Teacher interviews will take place on Thursday, November 15 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Students will be dismissed at 2:15 p.m. on that day.


 

Third – Friday, November 16 is a PD Day, and therefore there will be no school for students. 


 

Fourth – Brebeuf’s 12th annual clothing drive, Project: Coat the Cold, will take place from Monday, November 19 to Tuesday, November 27.  Winter and summer clothing in respectable condition will be collected, specifically winter jackets/coats, snow pants, sweaters, shirts, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, and sleeping bags for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.  Monetary donations will also be accepted, with funds used to purchase new clothing.  A detailed letter regarding this initiative has been sent home with all students.


 

Fifth – Please join us on Thursday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. for our first “Lessons and Carols for Advent” service at Blessed Trinity Parish.  The event is jointly hosted by Blessed Trinity Parish, St. Joseph Morrow Park, and Brebeuf College School.  See the flyer attached to your email for further information.

Third – Brebeuf College School will be holding its first Post-Secondary Fair on Thursday, November 8 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the school gymnasium.  All universities and colleges will be represented, as well as specialty schools and programs. Although all students are welcome, we strongly encourage all students in Grade 11 and 12 to attend the fair with their parents.

First – Halloween Costume Day will be held on Wednesday, October 31.  This is a free casual day for students who wear a Halloween costume.  Costumes, masks, and props considered to be offensive or inappropriate are not permitted.

Third – There is a College Fair taking place at the Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place on Tuesday, October 23 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, October 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Students are encouraged to attend the Tuesday session so as not to miss any class time. University PIN numbers for grade 12 students have arrived and are available for pick-up in the Guidance office.  You are also encouraged to sign-up for a University or College workshop in Guidance beginning Monday, October 22.

 
Fourth – Thursday, October 25 is a casual day for students who bring in $2.00.

 
Fifth – On Friday, October 26, Student Council will be hosting our annual Halloween Dance which runs from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.  Tickets for the dance are $10.00 and must be purchased in advance during both lunches within the week.  Students must have their student ID at the door to be admitted.  Tickets will not be sold at the door.

 
Sixth – Brebeuf College School is offering an After School Literacy Test Preparation program for all grade 10 and 11 students who will be writing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) in March.  There is no cost for this program. Nine – On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, cannabis became legal in Ontario and the rest of Canada. The Toronto Catholic District School Board remains committed to maintaining safe school and work environments that are welcoming and support the Board’s focus on excellence in education.  Although legislation will permit the recreational use of cannabis, the vaping, smoking, or use of lighted tobacco, cannabis/marijuana, herbal material (or any other combustible material) and electronic smoking devices are prohibited at all TCDSB schools and worksites.

Invitations have been mailed and if your son receives one, please have him return it ASAP to assist with the organization of the evening. Students must arrive by 6:40 p.m. and be dressed in the full winter uniform.

Each Ontario university hosts an exhibition booth and presents information sessions during this three-day event. Second – Please note the Late Start scheduled for Tuesday, October 2 has been cancelled.  We will be on a regular school schedule that day and students are expected to arrive for school by 8:30 a.m.

 
Third – This is a message to all parents of Grade 9 students that the Grade 9 Parent Orientation Night will be held on Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the Theatre.  As well, to all parents of Grade 10 students, the OSSLT Parent Information Night will also be held on Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the Brebeuf Library.

 
Fourth – Wednesday, October 3 is a casual day for students who bring in $2.00.

 
Fifth – This message is for all parents of Grade 9 students.  A letter has been sent home regarding the upcoming Brebeuf Colour Run on Wednesday, October 3.  Permission forms must be returned by October 1 allowing your son to participate.

 
Sixth – There will be a University/College presentation on Wednesday,October 3 during period 2 for all Grade 12 Students.  Students with period 2 spare should attend on their own. 

 
Seventh – Early assessment letters will be sent out next week designed to let parents and students know whether or not achievement is satisfactory. 
Eight – Friday, October 5 is a PD Day, and therefore there will be no school for students.  

 

 
September 22, 2018

 
First – Catholic Parent Council Elections for Brebeuf will be taking place on Tuesday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the school library.  This is the parent council’s Annual General Meeting and all parents are invited to attend even if they do not wish to vote in the election.

 
Second – On Thursday, September 27, Student Council will be hosting a BBQ and selling hamburgers and hot dogs, chips, ice cream sandwiches and drinks during both lunches. Cafeteria service will not be running in order to raise funds for Student Council initiatives. Lunch combos will range from $5.50 to $7.00. Regular cafeteria service will resume on Friday.  Also, Thursday, September 27 will be Spirit Wear Day.  Students can wear their spirit wear or Brebeuf team wear at no cost.

 
Third – There will be an International Leadership Trip heading to Ireland from Friday, March 8 to Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Our TCDSB students will be connecting with student leaders from the Presentation Boys’ Schools as well as Loretto Girls’ Schools to provide meaningful service to the Irish communities. An information evening will be held on Thursday, September 27 in the Brebeuf library at 7:00 p.m. Please contact Mr. DaCosta or Mr. Rogers for further information.

First – We have a late start schedule on Tuesday, September 18.  All students are expected to arrive for school by 9:45 a.m.

 
Second – On Tuesday, September 18 all Grade 9 students attending Muskoka Woods, along with the Muskoka Woods Leaders, will be participating in an Information Session in the gym until 3:30 pm. It is imperative that all those going to Muskoka Woods attend this session to receive important information. 
As a reminder, all grade 9 students attending the trip are expected to be at school on Wednesday, September 19 at 7:45 a.m. All senior student leaders attending are expected to arrive at 7:15 a.m.  All students must bring a packed lunch with them for the first day to eat upon arrival at Muskoka.  Although students are allowed to bring snacks, they must be nut-free.  Students will be returning to Brebeuf on Friday, September 21 at approximately 3:30pm and must be picked up at that time.

 
Third – The WE DAY FAMILY Evening Event is back for a third year. The event takes place on Thursday, September 20.  Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the show starts at 6:15 p.m. at the Scotiabank Arena.  The event includes many of the same acts and speakers from the day show with a specific focus on the Family.  There is no cost to attend WE Day Family Toronto.  Click here to register; https://www1.ticketmaster.ca/event/100054F9A7A03DA5?did=weday1

Sixth – As a reminder, we have now installed signs to direct traffic properly so that all students arrive safely.  Students are to be dropped off at the east end of the school. DO NOT make a right turn into the first parking lot for drop-offs.  DO NOT stop in the area at the front of the school.   These recommendations come from the Board’s Safety Officer.

 

 
September 8, 2018


 

First – Monday, September 10 is our school photo day.  All students must carry their school-issued student photo ID as proof of age if requested by TTC staff.  The student ID must also be presented at some events such as school dances. Parents and students can now register their email to receive photo day updates straight to their inbox! Not only will you receive reminders leading up to photo day, but also receive notifications when photo proofs and packages are ready. Visit edgeimaging.ca/photoday to easily check for original and retake photo dates. 


 

Second – We will be having a very important information session for all the parents and students attending the Muskoka Woods Orientation.  This meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 11 at 6:30 pm in the Brebeuf Theatre. Please RSVP by emailing Ms. M. Deveci at maral.deveci@tcdsb.org 


 

Third – Thursday, September 13 is our first casual day of the year.  Just a reminder that the Student Council collects $2.00 from each student who wants to participate. These funds are used to support school events.  No headgear is permitted.

 


 

Fourth – St Cyril Elementary School will be celebrating their 60th Anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, they will be having an event for the school community and alumni on Friday, September 21 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.  They are looking for volunteers and will acknowledge volunteer hours for any students wishing to help out.
