Toronto Catholic District School Board

Special Education

The Resource Room at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts is a welcoming place for students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and those who have been IPRC’d (Identified as a Special Education Student). It is fully equipped with computers, printers and a scanner.

In a school with students as diverse and unique as those who attend Cardinal Carter is committed to support the needs of all students. Resource services are provided to students who are formally identified through an Identification, Placement and Review Committee (IPRC). Our exceptional students receive support and accommodations both through the resource department as well as within the classroom as designated by their Individual Education Plan (IEP). Resource teachers are available to support identified students with their academics in addition to educational assistants who also work closely with exceptional students to promote academic success. In an effort to facilitate support, access to resource assistance is available to students before, during and after school. Learning Strategies courses (GLEs) are available for identified students. These courses focus on the development of literacy skills, numeracy skills and learning strategies that promote personal management techniques to assist students in becoming independent learners. Students participate in computer in-servicing and pre-college workshops to facilitate a smooth transition to post-secondary institutions.
