Congratulations to Tom Leon Bursary Winners
Since 2004, The Tom Leon Charitable Foundation has awarded $20,000 annually in student bursaries to four deserving Toronto Catholic District school Board students who require financial assistance in order to pursue studies at a post- secondary institution.  This year, two graduating female students and two graduating male students will each receive $5,000 made payable to the university which they will attend in the fall.
The selection of the recipients is based on a variety of criteria including contributions to the school and/or community that reflect Catholic values, financial need, volunteer work within the school or community, and personal challenges and obstacles. Congratulations to this year’s winners, including:
Michael Dizon, Chaminade College School, has shown outstanding leadership qualities in his school and in his community as editor of the school newspaper, member of Chaminade’s Stop the Stigma Mental Health Team and Model United Nations club. He has over 1,150 volunteer hours. Michael has maintained a high average throughout his high school years and continues to be an active volunteer in his parish and community. He will attend Schulich School of Business.
Kalem McSween, Chaminade College, gives of his time generously. He is actively involved in a variety of community initiatives including: the Chaminade Model United Nations Club, camp leader for grade 9 students during their Camp Manitou retreat, and member of the Catholic Student Leadership Impact Team. Kalem has also volunteered much of his time to assisting Chaminade’s Transition to High School Initiative in an effort to build long lasting relationships and prevent bullying. Kalem will attend Ryerson University.
