Toronto Catholic District School Board

Turning the Sod as Construction Begins
on Holy Trinity

May 24, 2016—Toronto--Special guests from the Toronto Catholic District School Board,

the Province and the City will be on hand to celebrate with the community this afternoon

as the sod is turned to mark the start of construction of a new school in south Etobicoke.

Construction of The Holy Trinity Catholic School is set to begin this summer on Colonel

Samuel Smith Park Drive south of Lakeshore Avenue.

The new kindergarten to grade 8 school will bring together the school communities of

Christ the King and St. Teresa Catholic School.

The new 530 pupil place facility boasts an efficient floor layout on three floors and boasts

an expansive view south to a historic orchard, field and other green areas. The playground

will be available for public access outside of school hours. The location adjacent to Father

John Redmond Catholic Secondary School and Humber College provides opportunities for

sharing facilities including the high school’s running track, as well as joint

learning/teaching opportunities for the elementary and secondary school. The school will

also have easy access to the lakeshore grounds and water features including winter

activities such as ice skating.

Quotes:
“This has been quite the journey for the staff, students and various levels of
government involved in this project. It will be wonderful to see the two school
communities come together and begin the process of learning and growing
together in a state of the art facility that will be conducive to learning and
exploring.”—Ann Andrachuk, Trustee Ward 2

“The location is ideal for enabling the development of close partnerships with
Humber College as well as Fr. Redmond. It is our hope that this collaboration will
lead to greater access to a wide range of athletics, artistic and academic
opportunities for our young students.”—Angela Gauthier, Director of Education

“This project is another example of what can be accomplished when all of us who
have a stake in the education of young people work together for a common
purpose. I congratulate the parents and all the partners involved in this
project.”—Angela Kennedy, TCDSB Chair

“I am delighted that construction of Holy Trinity Catholic School, which will unite
the Christ the King and St Teresa Catholic School communities in this modern new
facility with an enhanced learning environment and supports, will begin this
summer. I have closely worked with and will continue to work with local parents,
schools and school boards to ensure that the facilities our students need are
provided.”—Peter Milczyn, MPP
