Student Responsibilities
 
Student Responsibilities for Preparing for the OSSLT
 
i. Test Room Locations
 
Lists of test room locations will be posted outside the Guidance Office the week before the test. Students will not be writing in their homerooms.
 
It is the responsibility of each student to check the location of his/her test room. Students are to contact Miss Borowski immediately if their names are not on any list.
 
Test room locations for students who are identified under the “Resource”, “ESL” or “DHH” eligibility also will be posted outside the Special Education, ESL and DHH classrooms.  
 
ii. Punctuality and Budgeting Time
 
On the day of the test, students are expected to arrive at the test room by 8:25 a.m. in full inform and with writing instruments.
 
Students who arrive late will not be granted additional time to compensate for their late arrival. Test instructions will not be repeated.
 
Students must remain in the test room until the end of each test session. Students, who complete a test booklet, will not be permitted to leave the room until the end of the session.
 
It is recommended that students use the full time provided to review answers.
 
iii. Uniform Policy
 
Students are required to be in complete uniform to write the OSSLT.
 
iv. Personal Items
 
Coats, bags and electronic devices, such as cell-phones, Ipods, should be placed in your locker before you enter the test room. Any personal belongings, brought into the test room, must be placed at the front of the room.
 
v. Bathroom Break
 
It is recommended that students use the bathroom facilities before the test or during the scheduled break. Students will not receive additional time to make up for time use by a bathroom break.
 
vi. =Writing Instruments
 
Students are required to bring their own writing instruments on the day of the test. Teachers will not provide them for you. 
 
Students are expected to bring the following items:
  • Sharpened HB pencils and an eraser (for bubbling multiple-choice questions).
  •  Dark black or blue ink pens (for written answers). Written answers must not be completed in HB pencil.
  •  Highlighter to highlight important keywords in the tasks.
vii. Multiple Choice Answers
 
You must record your answers for multiple-choice questions on the Student Answer Sheet. Multiple-choice answers recorded in the Test booklet will not be scored.
 
Use HB pencils to record your multiple-choice answers. DO NOT USE A PEN.
 
Please refer to the Test Instructions (p. 2) of the Getting Ready  Guide and Sample Answer Sheet included in this booklet for additional information.
 
viii. Written Answers
 
Write your answers legibly using a dark or blue pen in the space provided in the Test Booklet. DO NOT USE A PENCIL.    
  
The number of lines provided for your written work indicates the approximate length of the writing expected.
 
Do not write more than what is required. Do not continue your writing on a back page.
 
A space for Rough Notes is provided. Nothing that you write in this space will be scored.
 
Please refer to the Test Instructions (p.2) in the Getting Ready Guide and Sample Answer Sheet included in this booklet for additional information.
 
ix. Offensive Language and Graphics
 
Student responses that contain offensive language and/or graphics will be reported to the Principal by EQAO. The Principal will take appropriate action.  
 
x. Student Behaviour
 
All students are expected to respect the administration of the OSSLT.
 
There is to be no discussion between students.  Improper student behaviour, that will jeopardize any student’s ability to complete the OSSLT successfully, will be documented and reported to the Administration.
 
xi. Teacher Assistance
 
Unless students are receiving accommodations, teachers will not be able to assist them with the completion of any portion of the test.
 
All instructional materials, that may assist students with the successful completion of the test, will be removed from the test room.
 
VIII. OSSLT Day – THURSDAY, APRIL 8, 2010
                                        
i. OSSLT Schedule         
 
8:25 - Students arrive in test room.
8:30 - 8:40 - Distribution of test packages and test instructions.
8:40 - 9:55 - Test Booklet #1 (75 min.)
9:55 - 10:00 - Collection of Test Booklet #1
10:00 - 10:15 - Break (15 min. only)
10:15 - Students return to test room. 
10:20 - 10:30 - Distribution of test packages and test instructions.
10:30 - 11:45 - Test Booklet #2 (75 min.)
11:45 - 11:50 - EQAO Student Questionnaire
 
ii. Lunch
 
11:50 – 12:30 - Limited cafeteria service.
 
iii. Modified Class Schedule
 
Students will not be permitted to sign out from the school after the completion of the OSSLT.
Students are required to attend their classes after lunch.
 
Period 1 - 12:30 - 1:00
Period 2 - 1:00 - 1:30
Period 3 - 1:30 - 2:00
Period 4 - 2:00 - 2:32
 
II. Reading and Writing Tips
 
i. Getting Ready Guide
 
Before completing each exercise, please review the Tips for Reading (p.3) and Tips for Writing (p.4) in the Getting Ready Guide.
 
ii. Answers
 
i. Multiple Choice
 
Use the Student Answer Sheet to record your multiple-choice answers. 
 
Remember, multiple-choice answers recorded in the Test Booklet will not be scored.
 
Review Test Instructions (p.2) in the Getting Ready Guide on how to record your multiple-choice answers. Use only HB pencils to answer multiple-choice questions.
 
ii. Written Answers
 
Record your written answers in the test booklet using a black or blue pen.
 
Any answers recorded in the Rough Notes section of the test will not be scored.
 
Any offensive language or graphics included in any section of the booklet will be reported to the principal by EQAO.
 
Review Test instructions (p.2) in the Getting ready Guide on how to record your written answers.
 
iii. Blank Answers
 
DO NOT LEAVE ANY QUESTIONS BLANK. Please attempt to answer all questions to the best of your ability.
