Dante Alighieri Remembrance Day Assembly

Every November 11th, Canadians across the country pause in silence to remember the men and women who served our country during wartime – past and present. The Department of Canadian & World Studies continued this observance by organizing various events to commemorate Veterans’ Week, November 5 to 11, 2017.  Dante students and staff graciously made donations towards the Poppy Campaign, in association with the Royal Canadian Legion. Our Poppy Campaign canvassers collected approximately $600 towards the Poppy Campaign. Thank you to the Dante student body and staff for their generosity! Moreover, a Remembrance Day student led assembly was organized and it included contributions from the Canadian & World Studies Department and the Arts Department.  A special thank you to all the students that participated in the assembly!
This year we recognized the 100th Anniversaries of the Battle of Passchendaele and the Battle of Vimy Ridge  as well as the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Hill 70, just to name a few. In commemorating this event, Grade 10 History students completed student projects on various battles. Grade 10 students also wrote "Postcards for Peace" to express messages of thanks to those who served Canada in times of war, military conflict and peace.  We were also very fortunate to have Members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Master Corporal Victor Mitrica, Master Bombardier Alexander Dickensen and Sergeant Brian Moniz participate in our Remembrance Day Assemblies as well as  speak to our History and Law students Through our Veterans' Week 2017 events and activities, Dante students remembered and recognized the sacrifices of the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces who have fought to defend both their nation and the peace and peoples of our world.
