Online Reading Websites ... Click on the titles below and enjoy with your child.
Read-Alongs are great for emergent, struggling, and reluctant readers, as well as being an excellent tool for ESL. They are also well received by strong and accomplished readers who are excited to follow along to the narration of their favorite books. Children, who are now growing up with e-mail, instant messaging, iPods, and text messaging are early and willing adopters to this innovative online reading experience.

What a wonderful website to check out.

Storyline Online - This great website has famous actors and actresses reading quality children’s fiction.  You get to see all of the pictures, just as if you were listening to a live read aloud.  This is a great way to expose students to quality read alouds – perfect for ESL students and low income families who may not have access to English books being read aloud.

The project was created in 2010 with a simple goal in mind; one book to connect the world. From its humble beginnings, the GRA has grown to make a truly global connection with more than 1,000,000 students having participated.

What is it?
The premise is simple; we pick a book to read aloud to our students during a set 6-week period and during that time we try to make as many global connections as possible. Each teacher decides how much time they would like to dedicate and how involved they would like to be. Some people choose to connect with just one class, while others go for as many as possible. The scope and depth of the project is up to you. While there are official tools you can use such as Skype, Twitter, WriteAbout or Edmodo, you choose the tools that will make the most sense for you. Teachers get a community of other educators to do a global project with, hopefully inspiring them to continue these connections through the year.

Starfall's Learn to Readstarfall.bmp

A great website ... started in 2002 as a free public service to motivate children to read using phonics (and phonemic awareness). This site is perfect for pre-school, JK, SK, grades 1, 2, and even English language development (ESL, ELL). It's easy enough for teachers or parents to get on the site and start to use it right away. Your kids will like it too. Shhh!! Don't tell them they're reading.
