Toronto Catholic District School Board

School History And Tradition

Founded in 1974 by the Basilian Fathers, Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School is a co-educational, semestered school located in northwest Etobicoke. The area is a residential neighbourhood with a Catholic Elementary School (St. Dorothy), a hospital (Etobicoke General), and a community college (Humber College) in close proximity. The housing around the school includes individual dwellings and town-homes. The school has a longstanding partnership with St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, the parish church. School facilities consist of a newly-renovated, air-conditioned building which features a new leadership centre, dramatic arts studio, ME/DD room, and cafetorium.

The school is named after Father Henry Carr, C.S.B. (1880-1963), a leader of Roman Catholic education in Canada—the founder of the University of Toronto’s’ St. Michael’s College, co-founder of the Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies, and an advocate of religion being included within the area of curricular studies.

The school has a rich tradition of academics, athletics, and extra-curricular activities. Numerous championship banners adorn the gym walls; dramatic productions, art exhibits, drum-line and musical performances are visible demonstrations of the school’s spirit.

The school is also rich in community spirit. The saying “At Carr, We Care” is reflective of the day-to-day operation of the school. The school motto, “Domine ut videam”-- “Lord that I might see,” expresses the goal of the Henry Carr community—to promote, in the fullest sense, each student's growth as a person.

School Prayer

We pray in the spirit of Father Henry Carr, Lord, you are my father – you have blessed me with the gift of life.

Bless me with wisdom to understand that life is choosing and sharing your goodness with my neighbour.

Father, teach me to respect and to live the truth.
Father, Let me know your love for me.
Teach me to discover my true self in mind and heart with you, – my Lord and my God.
Please Lord — THAT I MIGHT SEE.

Amen.

School Song

We’re standing proud,
And everybody knows we hail from Henry Carr.
We say it loud,
And everywhere we go the white and blue is what we are.

To live a dream,
To conquer all our fears with everything we’ve got.
We’re all a team,
And just to know us all you’d best believe we’re got a lot.

Year after year,
The Carr tradition we will carry near and far.
It started here,
And we’ll remember most of all our friends at Henry Carr.

We’re Henry Carr,

That’s who we are.
The white and blue,
We will be true.

When you say Carr Crusaders, YOU’VE SAID IT ALL!
