Celebrating Exemplary Practices
2011-2012 Award Winner
For the 13th year, Toronto Catholic District School Board acknowledged innovative projects and programs at TCDSB schools with the Exemplary Practice Awards, which took place on April 23rd. Among this year’s award winners was Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School for “R.E.A.C.H. Reward Every Active Child’s Health”.
The REACH goal is to inspire children to take on a vested interest in physical activity, and to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Through working collaboratively by visiting neighboring feeder elementary schools will provide insight on certain topics, and taking part in various events/activities. The REACH Program can be seamlessly replicated elsewhere within the TCDSB. This provides students the chance to show the younger children their successes.

In conjunction with the Catholic Graduate Expectations as well as the TCDSB Virtues of the Month, REACH Reward Every Active Child’s Health is a program purposely designed to enable students in secondary schools to work and mentor neighboring elementary schools honing in on important leadership skills. Given the exposure the elementary students will have had to the high school scene, it is expected many will gain a marked advantage both in assimilating within the school but also have a familiarity with the breadth of the specialty programs within the school as well.
