Annual School Events/Volunteer Opportunities
Kaleidoscope - January-May
A “Kaleidoscope” of art, featuring visual art as well as dance, drama and music performances (vocal, band and strings). The event is held on an evening in the spring throughout the school. Volunteers are needed from the planning stage which starts in January through to the event date. Funds raised support the Regional Arts Program at Father John Redmond. Silent auction donations such as gift cards, event tickets, gift baskets, services, wine for gift basket raffle, and baked goods for the bake sale are needed and appreciated. If you are a local business owner that can donate or a parent who would like to volunteer, we’d love to hear from you.
Used Uniform Program - June-August
The used uniform sale is the school’s biggest fundraiser. It’s an opportunity for students to donate their used uniforms back to Father John Redmond to support various school programs. Uniforms can be dropped off in the attendance office. Sales are typically held in July during the grade nine transition program, late August on grade nine orientation day and on curriculum night in September. Volunteers are needed from the sorting stage which starts at the end of June through to the sale dates. If you would like to help organize this event and/or assist with collection and sorting of the clothes, please contact us.
Pollinator Garden - April-May and September-October
In 2019, Father John Redmond received funding from the City of Toronto to create a pollinator garden. The garden is intended to engage students in outdoor learning, and to foster their development as stewards of the land. Students, teachers, and parents collaborated with the school board and local environmental teams to redesign the grounds northwest of the school. Planting of native trees and shrubs started in the fall of 2020. The garden serves as a source of enjoyment for the community as well as a necessary habitat for pollinators. Volunteers are needed at least twice a year to maintain the garden.
