York U School of Public Policy & Administration
2018 High School Essay Contest 2nd Prize Winner

Dear Randesh, Merveille and Kayla,

On behalf of the School of Public Policy and Administration and our undergraduate student association, we are pleased to inform you that your co-authored essay submission to our 2018 High School Essay Contest on Your Vision for Canada is the contest's 2nd prize winner. We found your essay titled “A Call for Canada’s Vision” very thoughtful, reflective, as well as visionary, as we would expect from the next generation of young public leaders.

As per the terms of the essay contest, you will be receiving a cheque for $150 dollars ($50 for each co-author), which we hope we can present to you at our School's Annual Student, Alumni and Community Recognition Awards Dinner taking place on Thursday, November 22, 2018 from 6:00-9:00pm at the Second Student Centre at the Keele Campus of York University (4700 Keele St., Toronto, ON M3J 1P3). This invitation is extended to each of you and your parents, or another 2 designated guests that each of you would like to bring to the event.  We look forward to the opportunity to meet all three of you in person and present this award formally.

The keynote speaker at this event will be Derek Lett, Executive Director, Office of the Conflict of Interest Commissioner, an agency of the Treasury Board Secretariat, Government of Ontario, and also one of our own alumni from our Bachelor's program. The title of Mr. Lett’s address is “Public service in turbulent times: The importance of public service values” and the dinner will also be an opportunity to meet a number of faculty, students and alumni active in the broader public service.

We kindly ask that each of you RSVP your attendance and the names of your 2 guests as soon as possible, but no later than Tuesday, November 13. Kindly indicate your preferences for the main course (chicken or vegetarian) and any other dietary restrictions, if applicable.

We also ask that you kindly provide us with your mailing address and confirm if the name you provided on the essay submission form is your full legal name as York University’s Finance Department will require this information from each of you in order to issue your cheques.

With sincere congratulations and best wishes,

Prof. Alena Kimakova, Director, School of Public Policy & Administration (SPPA)
Prof. Joanne Magee, Undergraduate Program Director (SPPA)
Sukhpreet Singh, President, Public Policy & Administration Student Association (PPASA)
