As teacher librarian, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all staff and students to the library. I invite you to come into the library and browse the library’s collections, use the computers or simply spend some time reading your favorite novel.

Hours
Monday - Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 2:47 p.m.
 
POLICIES
 
Uniform
Students are required to wear their uniforms while they are in the library. No headgear is allowed.
 
 
Behaviour
Cell phones, iPods,  food and drinks are not permitted in the library.
 
 
Use of Computers
Students must sign up for computer use and are responsible for all hardware. Students must ask permission to print their work or else pay 10 cents per page. Students must abide by the TCDSB Surf Right Acceptable Use Policy.

Loan Periods
Books (except reference books) ...................2 weeks

Renewals and Reserves
Books must be brought to the library in order to be renewed. (If no other student needs the book). Books may also be reserved by individual students or teachers.

Student passes
During school hours, students, who do not have a spare, are required to have a pass to use the library. Attached is a copy of the Library Resource Pass. Make additional copies for your use.
 

Our Goal

Our goal is to develop and implement a library program to motivate a life-long interest in reading for pleasure and to improve literacy skills across the curriculum 
 
Our Aims
·        Instill a joy of reading while encouraging students to develop a reading habit

·        Develop students’ research and inquiry skills
·        Develop a sense of the ethical use of Internet material
·        Collaborate with teachers to plan and implement curriculum units

LITERACY INITIATIVES
 
Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test
 
To prepare for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test, students can practice for the test on the Reading and Writing Achievement program on the school's computers. Click Start> Learning Tools> Reading and Writing Achievement.

Videos and other audiovisual materials are available for classroom use from the Professional Library at the Catholic Education Centre. To search for materials, visit their web site:

Note: 16 mm films have been transferred to VHS format and were withdrawn from the library’s collection
 
Reservations
 
To reserve a video, e-mail your request to: mediar@tcdsb.org .
When reserving videos, please include:
 
• teacher and school name
• region code (#5527)
• the video title(s)
• call number (you may want to include the old call number located in the Notes field of the catalogue record)
• requested delivery date and return date.
 
SERVICES

Networked Computers

The library has 16 computers for individual student and staff use. Students are required to sign up for the use of a computer. Teachers are asked to book the computer labs for classroom use. Booking binders are located in the front office.

Photocopying Services

The photocopier is available for staff and student use. Only letter-size copies are available. Photocopying is available to students for a fee of $0.10 per page.
 
 
Audiovisual Equipment/Supplies

Each classroom should have a working overhead projector. If your projector is in need of repair, please attach a description of the problem with the projector and bring it to the library. Overhead bulbs are available in the library.

Individual departments have been given TV-DVD monitors. Four additional TV-DVD monitors are available in the building. Please use the black booking binders in the front office. A TV-DVD monitor unit is also available in the library for staff and group presentations. Currently, cable is not available in the library. A CD player is available for booking. Please use the booking binder in the library. Audiocassette players are also available.

Library bookings:
Throughout the school year, teachers are invited to bring their students to the library. Staff are invited to use the library for meetings and large group presentations. Use of the library for these activities, during and after school hours, should be arranged with either librarian.
