Toronto Catholic District School Board

MotoSport Day with Toronto Police and Yamaha Sports

On Monday June 1, a bus-load of Jean Vanier CSS students made their way up to Horseshoe Resort, as the guests of the Toronto Police, Yamaha Sports, and Horseshoe Resort. The opportunity was provided to inner-city youth to experience the thrill of riding a motocross motorcycle in controlled surroundings. Full instruction was provided, all the necessary clothing and gear, and lots of time on the bikes to enjoy the rugged purpose-built course.

Leaving the school at 6:45 am the students travelled up to Horseshoe valley where, after breakfast they were provided with all the necessary safety gear, given instruction on the operation of the bikes, and then given the day to ride and enjoy this new experience. The kids had a wonderful day, and were exemplary ambassadors for the school.

The students had a wonderful day, and were appreciatiative of the opportunity. The day would not have been possible without the quick organization of our vice-principal, Ms Bannon, and without the drive and enthusiasm of Police Constable Gord Fowlds, and Clinton, of Yamaha Sports, the driving forces behind the event. As well, thanks must go to Mr Jorge and Mr McMillan, school supervisors who spent the day with the students.

Please see below for some pictures from the day.
