It was with great joy that we celebrated our moleben on September 13, 2013 with our Bishop, His Excellency Stephen Chmilar, our pastor, Fr. Roman Lobay and our school catechist, Fr. Oleh Kachur. Our students and staff prayed and sang as a community, asking God for his blessings on this new school year. In addition to our prayers, we were very fortunate to be presented with the sweater worn by our beloved school’s namesake, Josyf Cardinal Slipyj, along with his rosary and lock of hair, all beautifully framed. This is the article of clothing he most often wore while in Rome, having been released from the prisons of Siberia. As the Ukrainian faithful proceed to have him named a saint, this article of clothing may one day become a sacred relic to be cherished by the Church. The children were able to see the vest and understand a little bit about his suffering and unending desire to have the Ukrainian Catholic Church re-established in Ukraine and strengthened throughout the diaspora. We thank Fr. Lobay for making it possible for our children to receive this gift celebrating Josyf Cardinal Slipyj.
